» SEC Football Championship Game 2009
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) plays their annual Football Championship Game at the conclusion of the college football season matching the SEC Eastern Division Champion versus the SEC Western Division Champion. The winner of the SEC Champion Game then moves on to play in a BCS (Bowl Championship Series) Bowl Game in January. The SEC Championship Game was first played in 1992 when the Southeastern Conference expanded to 12 teams as it became the first conference championship game of its kind. While other conferences have adopted a similar format, the SEC continues to be the standard at which others are judged in the world of college football and the SEC Championship Game is annually one of the biggest games of the entire college football season.

The SEC Football Championship Game was first played at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, the first two seasons in 1992 & 1993 and has been played in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia, in every year since. Coming into the 2009 SEC football season the Southeastern Conference’s Eastern Division Champions have won the SEC Championship 11 times compared to the Western Division Champions having won just 6 times. Below is a look at the historical SEC Championship Game winners.
