Default Ft Payne Alabama. What is there?
Got a job interview in Ft Payne and was wondering if it was just a small country town or does it have any substance. According to the map it looks close to Chattanooga.

So, is anyone from there or been there and can you tell me about it?

live about 45 minutes from there, its a small, quiet town. Sock capital of the world, home of the group Alabama. If you like the outdoors, then you will love this area.

It's very peaceful. There are lots of hills and nice scenery. Very small, though. I think it's nice.

Not sure about the "downtown" scene but Ft. Payne is in one of the most scenic areas of the entire Southeast. You're nestled in the Cumberland Plateau surrounded by beautiful landmarks such as Lookout Mountain and Little River Canyon. Also within a 30-min radius to Guntersville Lake, the city of Mentone (which hosts some of the most popular lodging and campsites in Alabama) and a whole lot more. Pretty much mountains in every direction that you turn.

TimNem's right...if you like your camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, etc...it's a terrific place to live. I think Ft. Payne also gets the most snowfall more so than any other city in Alabama due to the high elevation, FWIW.

I know the country music group "Alabama" is originally from Ft. Payne.
MIRACLES HAPPEN!

It's a small town of about 13,000 and a great place to raise a family, but not much to do for the younger crowd. It's still called the sock capital of the world, but most of the sock mills have shut down. Fort Payne is in the valley between Sand mtn. and Lookout mtn. and if you love the outdoors it's def a great place to live. You would be about 45 min from Chatanooga, 90 min from Bham and 2 hrs from Atlanta.

Not much I can add other than DeSoto falls, DeSoto State Park and the Little River Canyon Parkway have some beautiful scenery.

When I first got my car, I drove the Little River Canyon Parkway, stopped and took what I thought would be some amazing pictures, only to get home and realize I had no memory card in the camera...
Football season is faaar too short...
