When in doubt- call any conservative a "neo-con"...nice tactic!

It is rather unfortunate for liberals that "conservative" doesnt have the same negative connotation in today's society that it can be used as a slur the same way "liberal" is...

...if it was, then maybe conservatives could come up with a new term like liberals did with "progressive"

Liberal; from the Latin liberalis, "of freedom"[1]) is the belief in the importance of individual liberty.

The day you think liberal is an insult is the day you think people shouldn't be free. Only conservatives think being a liberal is an insult, just like only racists view being a minority as being a bad thing. Neo-con is merely a modern conservative. If you have trouble being addressed as such, i suggest you vote differently

The day you mix up liberalism in the American sense, and liberalism in the historical / global sense, is the day you miss the point entirely.

Just as there is a difference between traditional conservatives in America (individual freedom, smaller federal government, free market principles) and "modern" conservatism, aka neo-conservatism (bigger federal government, interventionist mentality abroad)

So, first- keep in mind that an American liberal and liberal in the historical context are two completely different thing. Next- recognize that there are still traditional conservatives, problem is- when a conservative is elected to office, they often become neo-conservatives.
