Default Interesting North Korea Documentary
KSR brought this to my attention, and I'm on episode 8 right now, thought I'd share it w/you guys. Looks like they have some other interesting documentaries on the site as well, I'm going w/Liberia next, but anyway....yeah....North Korea....weird as hell. No one gets inside there...so take a look and learn something:

Vice Guide to North Korea 1 of 14 | VBS Newsroom | VBS.TV

Obviously, that's #1 of 14. I figure you guys are smart enough to find the rest of the episodes at the bottom there.

Good deal PT. Thank you for posting this. I'll have to dig up a few other documentaries I have taken by human smugglers getting people out of NK. Very interesting. I'm all over it..

I'll have to check that out. Watch this one that my former co-workers always talked about. I constantly have to remind myself that I live 50 miles from this place

Are you an English teacher over there in Seoul? I have a friend from Virginia Tech who's ever there right now doing that.

The contrasts are so stark.....South Korea a modern bustling economy, and then once you get into Pyongyang, it's like you're in a 1950's Soviet Bloc country.....just absolutely horrible.

I will never understand why some people think Communism is a good idea. You don't see anyone flocking to get IN to North Korea, Cuba, etc.

I mean, at least the USSR was run relatively efficiently. They had a decent go of it. But watching these documentaries, it's clear that Kim Jong Il is just a nutbag who was born in to way too much power. I admittedly know little about North Korea under Kim Il Sung, or about the Korean War for that matter. I have to believe that things started out better than where they are at now. I mean seriously....wtf is going on there. How do they not know the entire global community is laughing at them in pity and at the same time want to help them out and bring them up to speed. It's really, really freaking sad if you ask me. Imagine if your life was the tea shop ladies life. Waiting weeks, months on end for a scheduled visit by customers.....that's gotta suck.

Cult of personality is putting it mildly. This is something the likes of which the world hasn't seen before.

Unfortunately, short of starting another war, there's no way we can take out KJI. We can't sneak an assassin in there obviously.

Kids in their 20's w/cataracts? WTF? And it's not like we can send 'em aid. They don't want it. Or rather KJI doesn't. They see all these packages w/food and supplies in 'em marked "United States of America" they would have to wonder why these "imperialist aggressors" would want to help them out.

Yeah, I just started my second year of teaching over here. Its a great place and I love it. Seoul is so Asian and so westernize all at once its crazy. They have a thriving city; the people here have money, the children are well fed and have an excellent education (The kids I teach in Korea are far and away better students than any I taught in Charleston) and all you have to do is head 50 miles north and they have nothing. They have nothing and they live in constant fear of their "Dear Leader". South Koreans have told me that if someone sneaks out of the North, their family and friends will all be killed or imprisoned because of it. Hopefully Kim Jong Ill will die suddenly and there could be a power struggle, maybe even a civil war. People say if this happens it could be the opening that is needed for the South to get in there and change things or at least an opening so many people can escape. Regardless, its a horrible horrible place to be
