So I got off of work not too long ago, and I had to go to walmart to pick up a few things. At 1:00, I was checking out, and was witness to 3 people get caught for stealing. Holy hell that was hilarious. They were in their mid 20's, I'd have to say, and the girl that was with them was putting up a huge commotion. She claimed that her 2 year old baby was at home alone and that she needed to go get her, and that she didn't steal anything. Why would you leave a 2 year old baby home alone to go to Walmart? at 1 in the morning? And the awesomely bad mom of the year award goes to...
So... what does common sense tell you? I've never stolen anything before, but if I were going to, I don't think I'd go at 1 in the morning to walmart, when there's employees everywhere, and only a handful of shoppers there. What the hell were they thinking?
Jeez, this made my night. I lmao all the way home.
...when you dig my grave, could you make it shallow so that I can feel the rain? -DMB
They fail at stealing. I can almost guarantee you that it is a huge no-no for anyone but LP to accuse/enforce/stop/chase/etc anyone of stealing.
Guy I used to work with would tell me stories about his 'buddies' who would roll into Wal-Mart around 1 am. Put a bigscreen on a cart and roll it out because there was no one there to stop them. They did this several times before they got caught because the Wal-Mart peeps alerted the cops.

Here's your operative statement. There was no thinking taking place.
My grandmother just retired from Wal-Mart after 38 years. She has told me that they have 10-12 employees roaming the stores in street clothes just to catch people shop lifting. So next time you wanna brag about being a "good" thief, remember the guy standing at the end of the aisle wearing an AC/DC shirt might be an employee about to bust your ass.......

She was more than likely caught on camera... well, several cameras. The sad thing is, if there's no first-hand knowledge or evidence of them stealing, you can get in serious trouble for accusing someone of stealing. I worked at Old Navy for two and a half years, and the only way we were allowed to call someone out on stealing was if we literally saw them stuffing purses/bags. Even if they came in with an empty trash bag and left with it stuffed so large it was starting to rip, we couldn't do anything unless we saw them.
Wal-Mart has the benefit of a bajillion cameras watching your every move. We didn't. We had merchandise stolen from us every day. It's really sad and pathetic.
So just a heads up for any potential shoplifters out there, most Gap Inc. stores (Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic) do not have cameras. They only install them when shoplifting has gotten out of hand.
And if you see someone shoplifting, tell an employee immediately, preferrably a manager. Shoplifters increase prices for all of us.

At Lowes we couldn't say anything to them about it even if they came up to us and told us they were going to steal something and then put it in their purse or whatever.
Loss Prevention manager was the only one who could do anything.
An older guy who worked in the garden department while I was there was fired one day because he was throwing rocks at this dude who went around the back and stole their leaf blowers.

At Kroger it was pretty much the same way. People would come in and steal beer/wine all the time and we couldn't do anything about it.
"Is that a foot-long mag-light in your pants, or are you happy to be at Walmart?"
I remember when I was 16 in my Dad's coffee shop, some dude just picked up a newspaper and walked away. I chased him down and told him I was going to beat his face in if he didn't pay for it. He handed me a quarter and we called it even. I got back handed the quarter to my Dad, when he said, the paper costs us 15 cents, and that guy comes in every morning and spends $5 on breakfast. I don't think we saw him again.
Sometimes its cheaper to let someone steal something. Its not about what is right or wrong, it's about what makes the most money. The fear of a lawsuit, is worth it for most retailers to let someone steal something, unless they are 100% sure there is a theft. Similarly, I'd have a hard time believing Walmart would get the law involved if they saw someone on a line for a register with a full cart of stuff, pocket a pack of gum.
Sensitivity Disclaimer: I post with sarcasm for the intended purpose of humor. If you can't handle that, perhaps the internet is too rough of a place for you.

Very true, but I have hard that disney world has fake people in many stores and will prosecute you even if you steal a pencil.
