provide us with an intellectual, fiscally conservative, secular law-and-order Republican candidate and i'd consider voting for him.

this country needs someone to move us back to the center. i realize Obama is not that guy, but neither is McCain.

RON PAUL!

Or the man he's endorsing, Bob Barr. They're both beyond the horizon ahead of both candidates we're being convinced are our only choices here.

No offense zartan, but if you think that Obama is somehow going to move us back towards the "center," then you don't have a clue about Obama.

McCain may not be the best candidate we could have, but he is better than Obama if what you are looking for is a move towards the center. Obama is the farthest left candidate the democrats have produced, ever.

I think people voting for Obama are largely under the misguided impression that because they want "change," they have to vote for a radically liberal candidate, without considering the consequences. Sure, it sounds great now, doesn't it? Change! I've never seen a more tragic example of groupthink than I'm seeing now in the faction that supports Obama.

You guys can criticize us who consider ourselves moderate to conservative (I don't know how many times I have to say I am not a Republican) and say we are just greedy or hateful, but the truth is, we're just not drinking the kool-aid. Throughout history, examples of the shift from free democratic societies to authoritarian regimes have been marked by periods of economic lows in which a charismatic person arose and convinced the people to hand over their freedoms in exchange for the promise of a more prosperous society. What they got was the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, Communist China, Cuba under Castro, Chile under Pinochet, Italy under Mussolini.... see where I'm going with this?

Yeah, I know... you'll dismiss this as fear-mongering and a ridiculous assertion. But the rhetoric of class warfare that Obama uses is the exact same language that Adolf Hitler used to come to power in Germany in the late 30's.
