One hallmark of the Phil Fulmer years was stupid play after stupid play at key spots in the game. Everyone always said that we just out-athleted to compensate for bad coaching during late 90s. When the recruiting dried up a bit and the game passed Fulmer by in the later part of this decade our athletes could not compensate for the dumb mistakes and bad coaching.

How many times was an off sides called on 3rd and 3 when we stopped the team only to get a first down? How many times on 3rd and 10 did we commit a pass interference call because someone was out of place in our secondary. How about our horrible zone play where good QBs would sit back and pick us apart.

What was really encouraging about our play on Saturday could be characterized in one word. That word is "discipline." This concept is directly related to coaching. On Saturday we only had three penalties and I do not think any of them happened at a crucial time. We fumbled the ball once and that was because our receiver was drilled, but the ball went out of bounds.

Also, we just played with a swagger not seen in our parts in awhile. Our defense was flying all over the place and making some nice hits. This was the first game I have seen this season and the change from last year is incredible.

Many on this board was saying that us UT fans expected to be back in a bowl this year or we would run Kiffin out. That is silly. A bowl would be nice, but I just want to see us compete with our rivals. We did that on Saturday. Keep competing and improving and we will start to see some Ws down the road.

Tennessee I agree
I was very proud of the Vols on Sat. The defense was terrific. I have one word, however for the offense. I'm going to patent this word like Pat Riley did with threepeat. The new word is incrompetent. We tried to hide our weakness by running the ball in obvious passing situations. We've got to find a QB and soon.

Another hallmark of Phil Fulmer is a national championship. Don't forget that one.

Fulmer did it with his own players. Tee Martin nonetheless. Of course Arkansas gave it to him with the Stoerner fumble, but I digress. Fulmer was a good coach and I hated him while he was there. He was in LR today speaking and I guess I feel a little sorry for the guy.

It's easy to forget that when your glasses only see Orange I guess.

Here's to moral victories.

Will always love him for that. He had a great run in the late 1990s.

Many people in the SEC hated him while he was there. However, the last couple of years many fan bases started to love him as he turned out mediocre teams that could no longer compete in the SEC.

Edited and fixed it for you. Tennessee fans have never subscribed to the moral victory. That is what everyone else has said about us when we have been happy with improvement.

Were you watching the same game as everyone else this last Saturday? 23-13 is not the killing that everyone including Vegas predicted.

Did you watch any Tennessee games last year? We played so pathetically last year that it was painful to watch. Stupid mistake after stupid mistake and with no heart and no discipline. We showed a pulse on Saturday against the best #1 team in history in the swamp. Last time in the swamp we lost 59-20. In two years we may win there. Enjoy stomping on us while we are down. It won't last forever.

I guess if showing a pulse is a measure of Kiffins success, he has arrived.

And FYI, I'm watching the same pathetic Tenn team tahe I was watching last year. Tenn had a good defense last year too, and aterrible offense, what's different this year ?

Oh yea, the margin of defeat. Yea, I guess you're right, if that's your measuring stick for Lanes success.

Just an FYI, when you see an ugly red line under a word that means it is misspelled.

Way to use the spell check. You improved on this post from your last post as much as Tennessee improved against Florida from this year to last year. Your post is a moral victory.
