Rettig receives offer

Should have done this a long time ago. We only seem to offer kids when we have a feeling we are going to strike out on another....like Scroggins. Now Boston College is in the hunt big time for this kid. Said he was ready to commit to BC when we offered today.

Should have offered him right after our camp when he said we were his number one. Now we are going to have to fight for this kid. If we would have offered him a month ago we might be looking at getting him and Scroggins. Now we are fighting to get just one of them.

I can understand why they played the waiting game, they wanted to let Scroggins know he was their #1....but now I think CLK realizes that there's a good possibility that Scroggins will end up a Trojan, and Rettig has said all along that he wants to come to UT, so I think we'll be fine with Rettig. The more I read about this guy, the more he sounds like a great find, so hopefully he'll be committed by the end of the week.

He is definitely a good find. He is a diamond in the rough that seems teachable with no ego. I just think we would have had a commitment on the spot if we would have offered at camp. And Scroggins has said all along he doesn't mind competing so that commitment wouldn't have bothered him since we have had our offer on the table for quite some time to him.

Now Rettig is saying its hard to get away from Boston College because he was about to commit. All I am saying is I would still have fingernails if we would have just offered this kid two months ago.

Yah I mean I am behind this coaching staff on hundred percent. But I have to say my nerves are not. Like you said only have one scholarship QB next year is scaring me big time. Either way I am behind the coaching staff 100%. O and BTW, as my incompetent friend Lee Corso would say, "not so fast my friend." I really don't think Scroggins knows yet. I think they both have pros and cons. I can tell you Florida is out. I think its funny he is even acting like that is a possibility. But seriously I really do think he is on the fence. All these interviews and write ups are all taken out of context by the party writing them. Who knows what the kid is thinking. But, I guarantee you if the kid is trying to get his commitment televised and make it a big deal he wouldn't have given away his choice in some post camp interview. He is still making up his mind. He may be favoring a school but, this isn't over yet folks.

The thought is that Rettig will wait and see if Scroggins committs to Tennessee before he committs. I think we got a great shot at at least one of them.

Rettig committed to BC today. I'll admit, I was suprised. It's a long time till February....

Now would be the time to panic. I said over and over it was a mistake to not offer him right after camp. We could have had him on our commitment list a long time ago. I don't blame the kid. He felt like a second choice and acted accordingly. BC showed interest and faith in his skills, and Kiffin just waited till he thought the 5th choice might not come to the Hill. I have to admit this all star recruiting class isn't doing what they say they are best at with our biggest need. Scratch that we don't NEED a QB, we absolutely MUST have a QB. Sure there is a long time till February but, most QBs have signed by now. Running backs, receivers, and other skills positions usually commit later. But now is the time for QBs and our group of all-stars have yet to get one to drink the Orange Kool-Aid. This is not good folks.

I don't think it's panic mode just yet. Suppose Cromps comes out and looks like a new quarterback, then we'll be turning people away that are lined up to get in. I'm just saying that there is a long time till February. Kids change their minds. Look how many times they decommit each and every year.
