GH hit on an excellent point. I don't think there's anything wrong w/following and keeping up w/someone that young when they have a connection to your program. Offering them is totally different. There's also absolutely no way in hell that you can look at a 13 year old and tell if he's gonna be able to handle SEC football in a few years. Basketball, you can tell skills-wise how they are progressing a little bit easier, but again, size/height play into that as well.

There's really no good that can come of these early offers. I'm infinitely relieved that Gillispie's gone so we don't have to worry about those commitments he was securing. What a damn whack job he was.

I don't know; he'd probably quit after 2 or 3 years anyway, if you didn't let him go play for another SEC team.

I'd go out on a limb and say Kiffykins didn't know that one either.

I was wondering if we were about to see another story about a recruiting violation; and that Vol site would be the one blowing it all wide open. I'm not sure he didn't commit a violation anyway.

13.1.1.1 Time Period for Off-Campus Contacts -- General Rule.
Off-campus recruiting contacts shall not be made with an individual (or his or her relatives or legal guardians) before July 1 following the completion of his or her junior year in high school (July 7 after the junior year in high school in women's ice hockey and July 15 after the junior year in high school women's gymnastics). U.S. service academy exceptions to this provision are set forth in Bylaw 13.16.1. (Revised: 1/10/91 effective 7/1/91, 1/11/94 effective 3/15/94, 1/10/95, 1/14/97 effective 5/1/97, 10/28/97, 4/26/01 effective 8/1/01, 4/29/04 effective 8/1/04, 4/28/05, 1/9/06, 2/26/07, 6/13/08, 4/30/09)

13.1.2.2 General Exceptions.
(g) Unavoidable Incidental Contact. An unavoidable incidental contact made with a prospective student-athlete by representatives of the institution's athletics interests, provided the contact is not prearranged by the representative or an athletics department staff member, does not take place on the grounds of the prospective student-athlete's educational institution or at the sites of organized competition and practice involving the prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete's team (high school, preparatory school, two-year college or all-star team), is not made for the purpose of recruitment of the prospective student-athlete, and involves only normal civility.

That number has become more defining for us than the TV show... and it's not even the right number.

I dunno...sure sounds like someone offered to me.

Evan Berry has decided to follow in the footsteps of his brother and father after accepting a verbal scholarship offer to play for the Volunteers and coach Lane Kiffin. "Yes, I committed to Tennessee," Evan said.
Rivals.com - Berry's brother wants to be a Vol

Interesting that a UT site changed their story but Rivals and others have not.
