Tennessee Rumor Alert: Re: Butch Davis
Rumor has it that a couple of high-level UT boosters have contacted Butch Davis to gauge his interest in the potential UT opening and he is very interested. It will likely take Saban-type money to get him.

My question: Is Butch Davis the guy we want?

Butch Just got to UNC, and he is doing pretty good there I might add .

UNC is a very prestigious school that will pay very very well prob. match w/e UT pays out. There could be some value in this, but I just don't see it happening..

I think he'd be a good fit. He went into a crappy Miami situation at the time and quickly revived that program... He's taken a doormat UNC program and quickly made them respectable... he sure has the track record of doing exactly what we need done. Plus, he's been at UNC for a couple of years now so the inroads he's made with regards to recruiting would easily be transferable you would think. I can't think of anything I don't like about it!
Phyllis-But it is a big deal. You almost killed Stanley.
Dwight-Yeah right! I filled him full of butter and sugar for 50 years and forced him not to exercise!

I think he will likely get a raise from UNC and stay put. If he wanted to try and compete in the SEC he would have showed more interest in the Bama job 2 yrs. ago.IMO

He has a sweet setup right now at UNC. He is a great recruiter and coach, I don't know if he would leave that to come into the buzzsaw of the SEC, but who knows? He will most definately be offered a hefty raise this year with all these programs firing their coaches.

I think that would be a huge win for UT. If nothing else, alot coaches like Davis will be getting huge raises and contract extensions thanks to high profile openings.

There is no link I can provide but he did contact Bama, Whitt and Jr. wouldn't return his call. They still had a grudge since he had agreed to take the job before when Price was hired, he backed out at the last minute so they hired Price. Can't really blame Davis for changing his mind at that time though.

Whether or not Butch Davis is the answer, I think this shows an effort on the part of at least the boosters to get a new coach. There are a lot of names being thrown around right now, this just being one of the more popular ones.

I never thought I would say this, but I don't think we could do any worse than holding on to Fulmer for any additional time.

Yea, I wouldnt be surprised if Tuberville did not use it to try and get a raise again!

If I had a choice of picking a coach, Davis would be in my Top 2

I would be happy with almost any of the names being thrown around right now. I would prefer getting a guy that's had success at a lesser school and is looking to move to a more prestigious one as opposed to maybe getting someone who's had a lot of success as a coordinator, ala Will Muschamp. JMO.

Agreed! I think Muschamp is a hell of a DC, but that doesn't always translate to a great Head Coach. I would not favor bringing in a guy with ZERO head coaching experience and handing him the reigns!
The list of "examples against" are MUCH larger than the "examples for"!!

Yeah right. That is why Mack Brown is still at UNC right? They are a basketball school and they will always be a stepping stone to a better job.

Well, if y'all get a call from Tammy Bowden, I think I'd say 'take a message.'
