Alabama What if The 3rd Saturday in October was reserved for homecoming?
.

This article about how the SEC distributes TV revenue made me think. (I know, I know, it's about time... but hear me out). More and more teams now have a huge financial incentive (and a tad of pressure from CBS and ESPN) to schedule highly marketable teams and drop the easy win patsy.

So how about tossing out the conventional wisdom of scheduling a patsy for homecoming?

How much national attention would be generated if "The 3rd Saturday in October," otherwise known as the Alabama vs Tennessee game, was reserved for homecoming year in and year out?

Can you imagine the merchandise that would sell if "The 3rd Saturday in October" was copyrighted?
After everything is said and done, more is said than done. Defy Conventional Wisdom - Noah

I kind of doubt you could ever copyright "the third saturday in October." That's like copyrighting "May 27th." It's a calendar date.

I don't think Tennessee would agree to play at Bryant Denny every year, and even if they did, The SEC wouldn't let it happen. If we played in Knoxville, it wouldn't really be "homecoming" now would it?

True! Also you have to realize that if had a UT as a homecoming opponent your risk make the fan base unhappy and donations could go down. Basically, I'm saying you schedule an easy opponent to make money on the homecoming game.

what he meant was that it would be the home team's homecoming. This year it would be Tennessee's homecoming, next year Alabama's.
