Is he what we thought he was? Going back and looking at the replay of the game he was doing a lot of those "things" that a QB does that can't be coached into him or corrected. He doesn't seem to be able to feel the pressure coming from his blind side many times when there was pressure on him he just stayed in the pocket and tried to force the throw when he should have moved away from the pressure and kept his eyes down field and made a throw or run with it. When there wasn't any rush and the pocket was clean he threw either too high or at the WR feet. He didn't seem to have any accuracy on his throws. They were all over the place. He was trying to win the game with every throw instead taking what was given. This is in NO WAY a "I hate Crompton they should bench him" rant. Just some observations I made and I was just wanting some other opinions.
Nick Stephens I don't really know that much about him and B.J. Coleman who Coach Cut was really high on. Theres not really much known about either one though.
Crompton will be fine IMO. He just has to get the ball out quicker and that is something they can work on. He looked rattled at times in the game, but that's to be expected when so much is expected out of you. The important thing is that he doesn't start doubting his ability and continues to work on his fundamentals. He's a good leader. The receivers believe in him. In time he will prove his worth.

I hope he will too but not being able to feel the pressure is what killed him. Because after a few times of getting knocked down by suprise you could tell he started getting rattled so even when the pocket was clean he was rushing his thrown and they were going all over the place because he couldn't tell if there was pressure on his blind side. I'm telling you being able to feel pressure is internal and it can't be coached you either have it or you don't.
i don't want to write the guy off as a hopeless failure after 1 game. he's got a chance to work on some things during the off week and then hopefully regain some confidence at home against UAB. i hope the fans get behind him; what will we gain by tearing him apart right before we enter the murderous part of our schedule?
On the bright side he led the Vols to two amazing drives at the end of the game that should have won the game. If our defense would not have parted like the red sea to a third string QB this thread would be a lot different. He has a lot of work to do, but he showed promise.
It's been one freaking game. And honestly, the blame for this game falls squarely on the coaching staff. Remember the LSU game a few years ago? Crompton looked good.
He'll be fine, and UT will be fine. Probably no SEC title or even East title, but they'll get to 8 or so wins and build on that.

Ha ha ha! Yeah we've been getting 8 wins a year for the last 10 years but I still haven't seen any building on that. QB's do what they are coached to do. I remember the LSU game and then Crompton was being coached by the guy who had coached 2 Super Bowl MVP. Now he's being coached by Dave Clawson....who?
I thought the play calls were questionable. We have been hearing all along how Crompton is way more mobile than Ainge. So why didn't we roll him out?? Why did he stay in the pocket the whole time when it seemed like there was a lot of room to run??
Also, why do we have him under center taking 5 step drops and trying to throw these 15 yard passes while he is getting blitzed all day. You would think that we would have adjusted to some more quick passes(the quick slants were working) and at least work him out of the shotgun.
I do agree that he did have problems executing in the game. Fumbling snaps and running into your running back on hand offs and drop backs are uncalled for. I hope he gets his feet under him and shines because he is our only hope to having a good season.
