Also, why do we have him under center taking 5 step drops and trying to throw these 15 yard passes while he is getting blitzed all day. You would think that we would have adjusted to some more quick passes(the quick slants were working) and at least work him out of the shotgun.

I do agree that he did have problems executing in the game. Fumbling snaps and running into your running back on hand offs and drop backs are uncalled for. I hope he gets his feet under him and shines because he is our only hope to having a good season.
I like how you think my fellow Vol. Fumbling snaps and running into the RB is uncalled for. And lets not cut the SENIOR RUNNING BACK Arian Foster any slack. I swear to God his hands turn to pure butter when the game is on the line and were in the red zone. And I think Fulmer has over exaggerated Crompton's mobility. He may be mobile enough to get away ever once in awhile but he will not be out running any safeties or SEC linebackers. And along with fumbling snaps and running into the RB what is with the passes that hit the ground 2,3,4,5 yards in front of the reciever?

Does nobody here remember how lost Erik Ainge looked his first year as a starter? He fumbled and dropped a few games away that year. Crompton will be fine. His arm looks strong and he made some really good throws. The coaches just put him in a horrible situation with their playcalling against UCLA.

I think that Clawson just didn't put Crompton in a position to succeed. Those throws into the ground were the result of him staying in the pocket and being constantly pressured. I thought our offensive line was supposed to be one of the best in the SEC and we can't block a mediocre Pac-10 team? I agree with you on fumbling Foster. The only time he fumbles are at the most important times in the games. Its demoralizing.

I see that me saying we should roll Crompton out more is a good idea.

I hope this helps to mobilize him a little bit more.

Erik Ainge's first year as a starter we beat FL, went to UGA and beat a top 3 ranked UGA team. And we went to the SECCG. Won I believe 10 ball games that year. It was his second year he sucked but that year he wasn't ever really the starter he split time with Rick Clausen.

I said this whole off season that the O line was overrated. If you go back and look at 07 there were a lot of times Ainge should have been sacked but he got the ball away. A lot of the O Line's success last year was due to Erik Ainge's quick release, and Ainge callin the blocking schemes at the line. I'm not a big fan of Clawson. And your right he did not put Crompton in a good position. Crompton should have never had 42 pass attempts. He should of had 20 at the most.

You are right. Didn't he have a battle with a mobile QB his frosh year?

Anyways, I don't think you can blame Crompton for the loss. The coaches take 99% of the blame in my book.

Yeah he had a battle with Brent Shaffer until he lead us to a victory over FL then it was all him. And heres how my blame list goes

1) Coaching
2) Arian Foster
3 Dave Clawson
4) O Line
5) Crompton

Crompton looks so much better and more comfortable when the offense mobilizes the pocket, he seems to get much more comfortable. The O-line just hasn't given him the protection they should be providing when they have 4 returning. Crompton is inexperienced and when he is pressured I don't think he knows quite how to handle that pressure yet.

I am interested to see how he progresses as the season goes on and the Offense gets more used to the new system of Clawson.
