Wow...the more things change, the more they stay the same. What an absolutely pitiful, gutless, and all too increasingly common performance by the Vols last night! WTF was that??
I'm sorry, but you Fulmer apologists out there and glass half full a$$holes stay the f*ck away from me today! This crap is getting REALLY old!! We just choked our season away to a CRAPPY and FAR less talented Pac-10 team. Losing to Cal last season was far more palatable... at least THAT team actually had some talent and weapons. We let a pitiful offense with no running game, no weapons at WR, and a joke of a QB move the ball at will when the game was on the line. Imagine what Florida, Auburn, and Georgia are going to do to us.
Uhhmmm...Dave Clawson... you were billed as being a good offensive minded coach. So much for that! Let's see....UCLA's strength lies in the DLine, so let's come up with a plan that includes a bevy of slow developing running plays between the tackles. Crompton is billed as being a good scrambling style QB so let's do NOTHING but 5 step drops and leave him in the pocket. I just don't understand at all! And no adjustments at halftime?? They looked like they had never seen a blitz before.
And Chavis...maybe it's time you hang it up as well! Kevin Craft throws 4 interceptions in the first half and is thoroughly horrible, but the Vols defense and coaches in all of their wisdom are still going to play it like Tom Brady's under center. Hmmm....you've got a young QB who's obviously rattled and lacking any confidence so let's just lay back and hope he continues to throw it to us...pure genius! 3rd and 6??? Make sure the corners give the WRs at least a 15 to 20 yard cushion on the sidelines....that QB's got a cannon and he's been burning us all day! Absolutely embarrassing!!
And can Foster not just go hang out with the rest of the guys and get into trouble like all the rest of our criminals....uhhmm, errrr... players? How embarrassing is it going to be that he's going to be at the top of our school's career rushing list despite the fact that there's been very little memorable accomplished during his tenure? Good thing for him that "Senior Leadership" at Tennessee does no longer include the prerequisite of sound fundamentals like protecting the football.
And finally to good ole Phil. Are we ever going to get to the point where you are pissed and embarrassed about how badly the guys on the other sideline are out-coaching and out-preparing their players? And are fundamentals even talked about at practice anymore? How many stupid turnovers, penalties, and bad decisions are we going to have to endure before something changes? I mean, I'm just curious because it's getting VERY old.
Obviously I'm just a little bent! I suppose there are a few positives to build on from last night, but there's just NO WAY IN HELL you consider yourself a "major program" and lose a game and to a team like that! No Way!! Those fellow Vols fans who diluted themselves into thinking last season's SEC East championship actually meant anything and was a positive sign of things to come now have another 18 days to do more of the same before reality comes punching you in the face in the forms of Hurricanes Meyer and Tuberville. When does basketball season start??
Phyllis-But it is a big deal. You almost killed Stanley. Dwight-Yeah right! I filled him full of butter and sugar for 50 years and forced him not to exercise!

What the hell does that mean?? At least Clemson lost to a good team...we have NO excuses!!!

The thing is, Fulmer will turn it around before mid-season and all will be forgotten. Seems like this love/hate relationship with Fulmer is just a regular thing the last couple of years.

That game definitely should not have gone that way. UCLA's D may be pretty good but their offense gave y'all too many chances to end that game by half time. That being said, I think y'all will recover from this. Y'all have too much talent and it's a long season. I will also like to say that I love it when every new season comes around and Fulmer is still y'all's head coach. Y'all keep thinking he is what y'all think he is. He may be a good technical coach but he is no leader.
I'm still baffled at what happened last night. I'm embarrassed that we fielded that team on national television. I give all the credit in the world to UCLA's coaching staff. They made changes at the half while we sat back and picked our asses. It almost looked like our players thought the game was going to be given to us on a silver platter.
I thought our coaching job was pitiful on all sides. I don't want to be one of those "fire fulmer" guys because realistically it is not going to happen so we have to deal with what we have. Expect UAB to give us another close one as Tennessee will once again play down to our opponents.
Question: Why does a quarterback that is throwing 40% throw the ball 40 times?
Congrats on the rest of the SEC representing us well. Sorry that we couldn't do the same.

Uhhmmm...for the record you'll find very little "love" from me on this board with regards to Phil over the past few years, so....
And as far as "turning it around", what do you mean?? If the Vols start 2-4 and finish 7-5, how much of that is Fulmer "turning it around" versus the schedule simply easing up which has REALLY been the case over the past couple of years?? Every coach looks smart and looks like they know what they are doing if they're playing inferior competition. Call me cynical, but wins over UAB, Northern Illinois, and Wyoming aren't washing away the pain of losses to inferior teams.

I mean you guys will beat Florida or Georgia and/or someone else you shouldn't beat and all the Vols fans will proclaim Fulmer and co. the greatest coaches ever.
