I mean you guys will beat Florida or Georgia and/or someone else you shouldn't beat and all the Vols fans will proclaim Fulmer and co. the greatest coaches ever.
Definitely not the greatest coaches ever but if we somehow beat Florida in a few weeks(which is highly unlikely with that high school team we fielded last night) then I'm sure UCLA will be put on the backburner and Fulmer will live to see another day.
Two false start penalties in a row and about 10 penalties total, quarterback tripping and running into running back on hand-offs, fumbled snaps, etc. embarrasing.....
Question: Why does a quarterback that is throwing 40% throw the ball 40 times?
Congrats on the rest of the SEC representing us well. Sorry that we couldn't do the same.
It's WAY too early for the "Fire Fulmer" talk I agree....beat Florida and Auburn and he's our best friend again!!
To your question, that's a good one! Crompton just looked awful last night. Yeah he was pressured at times, but even when he had time he made some terrible throws. I think his decision making and grasp of what he wanted to do was pretty good, he just couldn't execute at all. He had no rhythm and his timing was off all night.
The play calling certainly didn't help either. I don't understand why we didn't run around end more because when we did, we were successful. We tried a couple of screens, but did not execute well on any of them. The one that was executed fairly well failed because Crompton threw a lob when he should have zipped the pass which allowed the defense to recover. And why didn't we mix in a few quick-hitters in the run game? Everything was a trap or a draw...there were no straight "line them up and run" plays called. I don't understand that rationale at all...especially when the OL and RB are supposed to be the strength of this team. Seems we schemed right into UCLA's strength.
To be completely fair though, I thought the execution was FAR worse than the play calling. If Crompton makes ANY plays outside the last 4-5 minutes, we win that game easily.
Phyllis-But it is a big deal. You almost killed Stanley. Dwight-Yeah right! I filled him full of butter and sugar for 50 years and forced him not to exercise!
After looking at all the highlights, it's obvious why UCLA won. Neuheisel was rocking the sweater vest ala Jim Tressel. That one garment of clothing is all you need to win any regular season game.

No doubt about it. I'd hate to say I would take this loss but I will if we can beat Florida somehow.
The play-calling to me was also skeptical at times. Crompton I think looked worse than he actually was. A lot of his throws were erratic but most of those were because our offensive line didn't protect him very well. That is why those quick slants were actually working. I don't understand why we didn't throw those more. I sure don't understand why we didn't do a few wide receiver screens to Jones, Taylor, and Briscoe. They could easily have made a few guys miss and pick up some much needed yardage especially when UCLA is sending 6 guys. And I'm still not sure why Rogers is still playing because he can't catch a ball when we need him to. I may be stupid but when the other team is constantly blitzing don't draw plays work fairly well? Crompton hardly used those legs of his the coaches have been talking about.
As for the rushing attack: I agree Hardesty was looking good bouncing it outside it just seemed like every time he didn't get any yards we would abandon it. I was literally yelling GIVE IT TO HIM AGAIN! Instead we would throw 2 times on 2nd and 3rd down. I thought Foster didn't get enough work between the tackles either. I thought Clawson's offense was supposed to get it to these playmakers in space?!?!

Is it too late to offer David Cutcliffe a large enough contract to keep him from going to Duke?
HA!! Careful what you wish for, right???
I DO want to thank my Vol brethren for NOT making excuses for last night....especially with regards to the officiating. The safety/non-safety call was inconclusive either way, so I had no beef with it. Heck, the worst call I thought was with regards to the UCLA sweep that was called a TD...there's no way he was in. Oh well.
When you drive inside the opponents 10 yard line on one drive and start another at the opponent's 26 and come away with NO points, there's no room for crying about officiating!!

Our excuse is that we were poorly coached. Maybe we can petition the NCAA to allow us to begin practicing a month in advance of everyone else. That might level the playing field a little.
If you guys beat Florida... I'll personally start a petition to KEEP Fulmer as head coach at UT.
Seriously though... this is a devastating loss for Vols fans... its embarrassing... but maybe it'll be a wake-up call for the team, and get them focused for the upcoming SEC schedule. Although from an SEC fan standpoint, if Tennessee were to end up in Atlanta in again this year, it wouldn't look good for us as a conference that the East champ lost to UCLA.
Can't say I'm dissapointed in the outcome (this is FINALLY the year!) but I def. don't blame Vols fans for being pissed. In no way shape or form should have lost that game as bad as Craft looked out there.
Yes, I'm disappointed in the outcome of last night's game, because UT could've won the game, but mistakes cost us dear against a under rated UCLA team. USC should be put on notice the team in West Wood is back. Norm Chow is one the best Offensive Coordinators in the Nation and he torched UT with the short passing game. This new offensive system will take time to get on track, so be patient.

Sorry I'm still baffled and venting...
UCLA's Defensive front is good, but the UT's O-line just had a bad game.
