Unfortunately, Holtz gave too many chances at Caroline, too. Think back to all of the chances he gave to Derrick Watson.

All of this makes me sick as to what it's doing to the reputation of the SEC.
He has been too lenient in the past. He has also kicked many players off the team. I don't want a coach who throws everyone off, but I would prefer that Fulmer were tougher. If the evidence calls for it, hopefully he will be this time.

If evidence suggests that one or the other had little or no culpability, and he keeps him, then most on here will say that there he is again letting them get away with everything. Doesn't sound very fair to me.
How many of you are concerned about the alleged victim? This should be about finding out what happened and punishing the guilty. It should also be about the health of the young man. This should not be about burning Fulmer at the stake.
He has acted appropriately to this point. They are suspended indefinitely. I expect him to do the right thing when he gets all the information that he needs. Just as in any legal process, the punishment should not come before the facts. Many of you want to kick them off first and ask questions later. Even the guilty deserve to have their stories heard before punishment is accessed.
Nice post Fernando, but if Fulmer had a better track record of keeping order, this would not be a discussion. For years now he has captained a loose ship. During his early years Al Wilson and Peyton Manning keep charge of the ship. Since those two stars have moved on, thugs have taken over the ut football program.

To most of us, the word "indefinitely" connotes a long time with no end in sight. However, according to the Dictionary Phatimus, "indefinitely" means to the start of the football season and, of course, the player(s) in question will be allowed to train with the team!

Thugs have taken over the UT football program....are you serious? Do you have any idea how many times I saw Manning on campus acting like a total idiot? Why is this a Fulmer issue? I am so sick of everyone blaming Phil. This is hardly about a fight is it? Its more about what "PHIL" is going to do about it. You know, fine, the little thug rats shouldn't have been fighting, and yea, ball bats, that seriously bothers me, but come on, what does Phil's tight ship have to do with it? The guys in the fight may very well be "thugs" but I hardly think that they have "taken over" the program. If you haven't noticed, there are other players on the team.

He is in charge of recruiting these men of "character", is he not? As with the CEO of any company, the buck stops with the head coach.

Listen to yourself. Your talking about two guys who almost killed someone. Just take a step back and ask yourself if these are the kind of people you want representing your university. I mean I'm willing to wait until the facts come out but what we already know is these aren't the kind of guys you want to stake your reputation over.

You can still have players that have skill and character.

The Knoxville PD should just go ahead and put a substation and jail on the UceaT campus. Real close to the athletic dept. offices in order to cut down on Inspector Phatlock's travel time.

I absolutely do not have to ask myself anything, I already said what they did was uncalled for, and I said that the law needed to handle it. And I hope that it does. I also was not talking about two guys who almost killed someone, I was talking about everyone's ideals that Phil is soley responsible for the actions of these boys. I am not worried in the least about UT's reputation, I mean, it is what it is. You all have already said it. Reputation is what other people think, and you all think Phil is a putz, and the program is shady. At least that is the impression I am getting.

I am not, nor have I ever said that this situation should be ignored. I think that it must be handled, and I am sure it will. Please don't make me out to be some crazed fan who thinks because they have on orange that they do no wrong. I have made it perfectly clear that I in no way aprove of the actions taken be tweedle dee and tweedle dum. My only point was: Let the law handle it, and when they are punished, they can watch their football scolly slip away. I think they would learn more of a lesson that way anyhow, I mean then Phil could look at them and say "well you dumb-a**es I can't get you out of this"

Take em off the team, and send a message. Same thing SS did here at Carolina. He let the entire team know the rules, and what was going to happen if you do not obey them. Just like anyone else on a job, legal community, or anything else. Someone has to be in charge. Is it the players or the coaches? If you do not go by the rules at your job, you are fired. These people, from ALL teams, need to know that there are rules in life to go by, and there are consequences for breaking the rules. It is their decision sure, but knowing you may be booted from a sport you love may make some think a second and third time before jumping over that ledge.
