Southcarolina Connor Shaw?
Gameock fans, Ive had the opportunity these past 2 years to watch Connor Shaw play HS football every Friday night. My Nephew, Rodriquez Frazier, plays on the team with Connor (he is a WR and FS). I know Connor is committed to Carolina.
I have a few questions. Is Connor being recruited to play QB? (You'd be surprised how many HS QB's get recruited to play other positions)

Second: If Connor is recruited to play QB, will he have the opportunity to start? Do you have another top recruit coming in at QB?

Personally, I like Connor. His brother Jaybo Shaw was recruited to eventually take over that triple option at Tech. Connor is much better.
Flowery Branch HS runs an offense very similar to UF's. A spread option read so to speak. But Connor takes a number of snaps under center as well. He is mobile and is accurate...esp. throwing on the run.

So thats my opinion on him. Could you guys answer my questions as well as give your personal opinions on Connor?

BTW. I heard last night that Connor is a Top 20 HS QB. Pretty impressive to me

He's being recruited as a QB with the knowledge that he can move to WR/DB if it doesn't work out. He'll definitely be redshirted next year. Our coaches are really high on this kid. He was our top QB target this year.

Thats awesome. They got their asses handed to them last night (by their undefeated rivals Gainesville HS) but it wasnt Connors fault. They have no O line and no D line. Connor completed like 20 passes (7 to my nephew including a TD pass)

Connor has all the tools IMO. He has had to adjust a bit this year since we lost our O line from last year. Connor has to roll out and scramble quite a bit. But he puts the ball right on the numbers. He is quite the athletic runner as well. Good speed (for a strong white kid) but also good vision and has that razzle dazzle ability as well.

FYI, Carolina has sent my nephew a letter of interest. He went to a WR camp there a few months ago and the guys at Carolina seemed to like him.
Rodriquez has scholarship offers from Indiana, UAB and UCF so far. I'd love to see him a gamecock though

This must be why we're recruiting him. We know we can't get a decent O-line here, either, so only the recruits who are used to it will put up with it.

I haven't seen any highlights of him but I've read good things -- will have to use one of my breaks today to check him out and see what he's all about. Might be a good thing that he's working behind a bad O-line as I have my doubts we'll be able to get our issues on that frong corrected by the time Conner will be taking snaps & being used to working under pressure might actually be a good thing. But yeah, I've heard we like everything we've seen so far and barring something unforseen, could be our QB to start 2011. If my hopes are realized, that'll be the 4th year together for our coaching staff & results should be apparent, especially along the line under Wolford.

Good to hear regarding your nephew....would like it if we kept a steady stream of good skill position players going who have good heads on their shoulders. Seems to be we lose a team leader and have a void the next year instead of reloading because we neglect a position or two in recruiting one year. What did your nephew think of the WR camp at Carolina?

He loved it! He turned down a UGA defensive camp just to be there. Were not certain but it really doesnt look like Carolina is going to offer him. Ive come to realize that just because you get letters of interest doesn't mean that an offer is coming up next.
He is actually a much better safety than WR, he just wants to be WR.

In my opinion, he looks like a very promising and talented quarterback, but many Gamecock fans aren't ready to look to recruiting right now. It appears our program is on the brink of taking a downward slide. I think Spurrier needs to hang up the visor for good. It's been the same problems year after year. His offense has been just plain horrible the last three seasons.

JMO, but QB all the way for Shaw. He impressed in some camps this summer, as I recall and at QB. From his videos, he seems to have a live arm, good accuracy and good delivery. I know South Carolina was really high on him and AT QB.

Pretty sure they are going to give him every opportunity to prove he can play QB in the SEC. He'll have to add a lot of weight and as Beedsy said, a redshirt is a definite, but he's got everything you would want IMO. Underrated prospect.

BTW 2753, do you live in Flowery Branch? That's god's country out there, man. Spent a week on Lake Linear one summer and it was unbelievable.

I live about 25 mins from Flowery Branch. I actually live on the opposite side of Lake Lanier, about 10mins from the marina. I like it. Wish I had a boat though

I'm excited about Connor- not because I think he'll compete next year (as beeds said, he's RSing next year) but because he seems like a no-nonsense kind of player. He appears to have a good head on his shoulders, seems mature for his age, is committed to Carolina in a big way (currently doing the recruiting thing for us), can scramble around, and is accurate in his throws.
