has changed in spurriers 5 yrs at carolina. i know the facts as they seem. we are young, we are inexperienced..etc...at some point this stuff has to change..i am one of those guys that have been waiting 40 yrs for next year.."next year will be better, we will have more experience, yadda yadda"..there is no fixin that offensive line by next year, or two years after because those guys just dont have it.
this loss was more about toughness than anything. tennessee flat kicked ass. they played faster and hit with more verocity. Spurrier better change his philosophy about hitting in practice. Maybe if we really were physical in practice the coaches could see how poor we tackle and how bad of angles we take..the coaches could also see quicker who couldnt handle being in the games..
garcia can improve all he wants but until he isnt scared to death back there it will be same ole same ole..i know we are recruiting lots of ol in this next class, but they are all out of hs..we need new ones NOW.
I read somewhere that one of our STARTING OL couldn't benchpress as much now as he did in high school. Something under 300 pounds or so. That ain't gonna get it done in the SEC. That's barely lifting your own weight.
We'll never win unless and until we can take care of all the details. Spurrier has done a great job on so many things but we were so far below the standard, it's a joke. That's why no one thinks we'll ever win the SEC.
it is what it is. You aren't going to do much better than spurrier. You could however do much worse. Sc is still a pretty good team and yall are set up to be pretty good over the next few years. Keep ur head up gamecocks.

this is the hard part to swallow. spurrier isnt a kid and wont be there forever. he has brought in better talent than anyone ever has and we are more competitive than ever. with that said, it is still a far cry from where we need to be.
i just am all for being much more physical in practices. He openly says that hitting hard in practices will cause some injuries. i think some of these hs lineman need to be sacrificed for some juco guys. garcia is gonna be a junior next year..a junior with STILL crap for protection. i know it and nobody will convince me otherwise..it will be 7 yrs in a row with shit for line.

If you think we're banged up now could you imagine if we were hitting as hard as possible in practice. You could add at least 2-3 more players to the injured list. I worked with a guy who was on scholarship when Holtz was there. Holtz of course was a staunch believer in making practices as physical as possible. Problem is, after making it through the week the last thing the team wanted to do was go out there and take more punishment.
Hitting hard isnt the problem. If anything its the D looking for the big hit too much instead of relying on form. Just square up and take the guy down or at least hold em until back up arrives. It may not put you on a highlight reel but damnit it will help prevent giving up big plays.

i was talking about spring and fall, not week in week out during the course of the season. just clarifying.
As soon as I saw that it was raining last night at the game I said to my friend "this isnt good for us" and apparently I was correct. Those 3 fumbles, along with the INT which we should have caught....and other passes were dropped. Our guys just didnt deal with the weather very good at all! I think overall we played alright, but just those 3 fumbles were the mistakes that cost us the game. We're a decent team, but we play in the best conference in the league. So if we're decent, we cant make several mistakes and still expect to win. We're not that good. FL and AL can do that, but we certainly can't. Watching all those fumbles early on was tough. But we need to forget this and look on to next week. Our next 3 games are all going to be tough and we need to play mistake free...and hopefully it wont be raining!!!
We outgained them in offense and Garcia had another 300 yard passing game but those 3 first half fumbles ruined any chance we had of winning that game. All credit goes to the Vols for making us pay for our mistakes. That one sucked big time. Hopefully we can regroup and play a good game against Arkansas next week.

^I guess it's gonna take another five years till folks realize it's not just somebody playing better or not playing good enough, it's the "ole ball coach" who is past his prime by a decade.

Go watch the Huskers some more.
