Gamecock fans, there were several good/encouraging things to take out of last night's game. For example, we know who our quarterback is. Also, I'd imagine the recruiting results from last night's atmosphere were very good. However, I'm absolutely embarrassed about how the game transpired last night.

Where were our seniors? McKinley had a pretty good game, but he definitely should have caught that pass that Garcia threw on the scramble. Garcia broke out of the pocket, the cornerback came up, McKinley broke long, Garcia threw it about 2 inches too short, McKinley had to go to his knees, and the ball hit him right in the chest. Kenny McKinley usually makes plays like that. Other seniors who refused to show up: Mike Davis (who is absolutely garbage, by the way), Ryan Succop, Justin Sorensen.

Where was our offensive line? Punt John Hunt. It's time for him to go. I don't know how on earth John Hunt or our offensive linemen could look themselves in the mirror/sleep last night. I'm embarrassed for them because at this point, it looks like they just flat out don't care. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: John Hunt will sink Spurrier's ship if he's not careful.

Finally, what the heck, fans? Garcia throws a pick near the end of the game, when the game is still in reach, and half of the fans get up and leave. Absolutely pathetic. And don't give me the traffic excuse. You weren't getting out of there last night in any kind of timely manner, regardless of when you left.

I'm just utterly pissed off about last night right now.

I couldn't agree more with you. Maybe we need a
"PUNT HUNT" web site !

I think Spurrier should teach Garcia how to throw the ball away!! The stands
are open on every pass play. Anybody can throw it away rather than take a
sack. And to let it happen six times???

It's hard to get set and throw it away when you barely have enough time to get the ball. Our OL sucks and can't manage to give Garcia any time whatsoever.

I have to agree with Williams-Brice. OL coach John Hunt needs to go. We've been saying it since the season started. Why Spurrier isn't doing anything is beyond me. If we had an OL worth a damn, I have the sneaking suspicion that we could very well be undefeated this year.

Why hasn't Spurrier ever commented on the questions about Hunt and the OL? Why hasn't he made any changes?

There has to be accountability.

Maybe there was a couple of times he could have ran for his life and threw it away, but for the most part just try to imagine, you have the ball and you need to count to two to throw it away, now try it when you don't get to one.

Why not us?? South Carolina, 2010 SEC EAST CHAMPIONS!

I think maybe 2 or at most 3 of those sacks he could have thrown it away, but the majority of them we missed a block and he had no time at all. He needs to learn to read the defenses a little better and audible out of some of those situations though. I think overall he did pretty well. I was surprised they didnt throw down the sideline to Jason Barnes like they did a few times recently. We need to try a really deep pass at least once a game!

But once again, turnovers and sacks ruin the game for us. So I agree, if it wasnt for turnovers and sacks we'd be undefeated.

And yea that pass that Kenny dropped on Garcia's scramble, it was tough to catch and I know that. However, it didnt look like Kenny was coming back towards the play at all. Garcia was running for his life and Kenny was just waving his hands, if he had thought to come back 5 yards BEFORE Garcia threw it, it would have been an easy TD! That is a catch that he normally still makes though, so it was a little surprising that he didnt get it. It was a good play by Garcia, tough to throw running in that direction!

All I can figure is that Hunt must have some real bad dirt on Spurrier for him to keep this guy around.

I don't know anything of our OL coach situation but 1 thing I can say is LSU's defense stepped it up alot last night and done some things I have not seen them do all year. All the blitzing and stunting they did. Just like our defense is not as bad as they looked last week. Maybe your OL is not as bad as they looked last night. Y'all were playing a pretty pissed off LSU D that was not going to be denied.

Anyways, Keep your heads up. And again, good luck for the rest of the season.

We've been dealing with OL issues since the start of '06: they've actually looked worse than last night before....but not by much. So, we're familiar with this issue. At least in '06, there were the excuses that the OL was young. But now they are seniors, juniors, and 3rd-year sophomores, for the most part. A lot of them were very highly rated prospects coming into the program. This year, there were really no more excuses why the OL shouldn't be at least dependable, but they still aren't. IMO, there has been very little if any improvement on the OL's performance since '06, and what we see out of them is the same thing game after game.

I came into this season feeling that there were no more excuses for the OL, and Hunt. We've replaced the ST coach and DC, despite their positions performing better in some phases than what our OL has performed. Why must we continue to be last in the conference in sacks allowed, in run offense, in false-start penalties year after year after year, before we realize that something is wrong in that area? Our OL's in the Holtz years were supposed to be less talented than what we have, but they did a better job (except the 0-11 season, when more than half our depth chart was lost for the season due to injuries).

The old saying "you don't know what you had until it's gone" would apply to us positively, IMO, regarding the OL coach. It's just not working.....

Three things are holding us back from contending (maybe not winning the East, but contending):

1. Offensive Line- Fire Hunt for heaven's sake. This is getting ridiculous.

2. Lack of a running game- I've tried to defend Davis but this is too much. I agree that he is garbage. The injury to Maddox is hurting us. We tried to go to Baker but he couldn't hold onto the ball. He's not ready to take SEC caliber hits. When you've got a senior like Davis, he HAS to step up. It's becoming evident that Cory Boyd really wore down defenses before Davis came in and made the plays he made as a Sophomore and a Junior.

3. Turnovers- You can't be 100th or higher in the turnover ratio and win in the SEC, no matter how good your defense is.

Other than those three things, we're on track. Now it's time to fix those. I was encouraged with the glimpse of the future we saw last night.

Our remaining schedule looks like this:

Tennessee
Arkansas
@Florida
@Clemson

I think we need to go AT LEAST 2-2 in those games to continue moving forward. If we shore up the above problems and the ball bounces our way, we could go 3-1. The rest of the season will be interesting.

When I was a kid we used to lose games like these by 3 or 4 touchdowns. At least now we're only losing by one TD. Maybe in a few years we're only be losing by 3 and then a few years after that we may actually win one. The bye week is coming at a great time. Hopefully we'll regroup and come out angry against UT.

I left at half time. I guess that turned out to be a good thing since if I had stayed and watched it, I would probably be scared sh*tless about us having to go into Red Stick this week.

We are worst in the country in sacks allowed, and as you can see from last night, we have absolutely no threat of a running game. They are definitely as bad as they were last night.

And kudos to LSU's staff for bringing the heat. I've been scratching my head all year as to why opposing defensive coordinators haven't been blitzing us like crazy.
