Auburn The sky is not falling, Gamecocks!
The sky is not falling, Gamecocks. The team played great in the first half, and offense just didn't have it in the second half. The defense was still great in the second half, but they just got tired.

This sort of thing happens sometimes. We don't like it, but it happens.

Good teams find a way to win even when things fall apart. USC found a way to win against the Heels. End of story.

Spurrier will figure out what the problem was in the second half for the offense. The boys will be ready to roll next Saturday against Vandy....no doubt about it!!

Go Cocks!!!

I'm just happy to get the win. The way upsets have been this year, every game is a potential loss. 6-1 is a whole lot better than 5-2. I'll take it.

With KY beating LSU, SoCal almost losing again, etc..., I am just happy to win.

But the problem in the 2nd half doesn't take much figuring out. Spurrier went very conservative thinking the game was wrapped up. It was like he started not trusting Smelley or something.... even after the great 1st half.

Had we lost this game, make no mistake about it that the blame would have lied firmly at the feet of the head coach.

Agreed 100%.

I can't say that I disagree. However, I'm sure Spurrier knows it and is beating himself up over it. He won't let that happen again.

I'm taking the "W" and moving forward.

On to the Vandy game!! GO COCKS!!!!

PS: Over on Cockytalk, you'd think the world is about to come to an end.

What makes it so hard to figure is how well and dominant we played in the first half. Smelley was 14-19 (74%) for 138 yds and a career-best 3 TD's. Cory rushed for 70 yards, and both Boyd and Davis rushed 12 times for 89 yards (7.4 ypc). Our defense had shut down the UNC rush attack to under 40 yards, and flustered their QB into 2 INT's. We were dominating.

For the 2nd half, Smelley only throws 7 times, completing 3 and throwing an INT. Cory rushes 10 more times for 26 yards. Mike rushes only 3 more times (only 5 carries for the game!!!) for 9 yards, all in one possession. USC's offense, which already gained over 200 total yards at the half, finishes with 289 for the game, and UNC - which was held to around 100 total yards at halftime, gains more in the 2nd half than the Gamecocks do for the game. WHAT HAPPENED???????

One, our O-line is going to be a problem for us all season. If we lose again, or fail to win the East, our O-line will be the biggest culprit. Spurrier recognized that Smelley started getting rushed and pressured in the 2nd half, and became afraid to let Smelley air it out. Our D spent most of the 2nd half on the field, and tired out.

We need our O-linemen to start stepping up...they have the size, weight and strength to match up with any opposing D-line we face the rest of the season. They aren't the most experienced, but they have some. They just need to grow up fast. Spurrier continues to tinker and swap out linemen at the guard positions, and we're never going to get comfortable until we can settle on someone....

You basically just put into words what I have been thinking and said during that entire second half.

Exactly. It was a pretty pathetic second half, but I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day of the week.

We won the game, that is the bottom line. I know it wasn't pretty the second half but with all the problems other teams have on the road, I will take it. Was it just me or did the announcers keep saying over and over how young UNC is? We are a young team as well and remember this was Smelly's first road game. He is 4-o as a starter, and we are number 7 in the country. It all sounds good to me.

Why not us?? South Carolina, 2010 SEC EAST CHAMPIONS!

#1 LSU lost to Kentucky........
#2 California is down to Oregon State with around 9 minutes left in the game.....
#3 Ohio State won impressively against a nobody
#4 Boston College beat Notre Dame 27-14.....
#5 South Florida destroyed Central Florida
#6 Oklahoma is up pretty good on #11 Missouri
#7 South Carolina struggled but hung on to win.
#9 Oregon won very impressively.
#10 SoCal BARELY escaped Arizona.

While I am disappointed that we didn't TKO UNC after jumping on them 21-3, I am happy to be 6-1 and leading the SEC East.

Anyone else notice that the Gators are currently FIFTH in the East?

Yeah, things are just falling that way. We are no way in hell a top 5 team in the country but hey, thats how the dominos fall, we'll take it.

We have a target on our backs now and we are going to get everyone's best shot without a doubt and we have to play well and the coaches have to coach better than they have. Spurrier can't rely on his defense in every single game and go conservative VERY conserative during the second half. He has to call better plays. We have to watch out for Vandy now, they could very well beat us, if we play like that.

Wow, what a day. At least I had some good finishes after our game to cool me off a little. I was happy to see our players ticked off in some post-game interviews about letting them get back in the game. I'd be a lot more worried if our players were just happy to get away with a win. I agree with what many of you guys have already said....with all of the top 10 teams losing right and left, this may be a season to just be happy with getting a W. Heck, the way things are going now, 2 loss teams aren't totally out of the picture.

I think Oregon will likely pass us and it is even possible that we don't pass LSU, so we could possibly remain at #7. I am thinking we move up to 6th, but honestly, I don't care that much at this point about our rankings when we aren't playing like a top 10 club.

I could not agree more. You hit the nail on the head.

Spurrier will get it together for the stretch run, though!!

Believe it or not, we moved up to #8 in the Coach's Poll, #6 in the AP, and #6 in the Harris. Win, and everything will work itself out.
