Default Michael Bowman Denied
Per posters at Cockytalk, Michael Bowman was denied admission to USC. He is looking at either ECU, N.C. State, or going to Fork Union, which I guess is a JUCO (??).

We had about 4-5 other incoming freshman that had questions about their entries, or exit exams from their high schools. I haven't heard much about them...

I think he was a definite redshirt/greyshirt guy anyway. I think Fork Union is a prep...maybe he'll go there, refine his game and his grades & rejoin us a la Ojiboye and Jarriel King.

I just looked at his vids on Rivals (they're free now since he's from last year) and I'm not real sure we're going to miss him all that much....wish him the best of luck though.

Michael Bowman was going to redshirt or grayshirt, and he was eventually going to be a role player. From the time he committed, I thought he was destined to be a punt returner and little more. What I hate is that he committed to us when recruiting was going slow. He jumped on board when no one else was doing so.

If he goes to Fork Union, which is a prep school in Virginia, then he'll eventually end up at USC once his grades work out. However, it sounds as though he's shopping himself to NC State and ECU. I don't see him ending up here.

The other guys in limbo are Arkee Smith, Akeem Auguste, Joseph Hills, and Melvin Ingram (heir to Jasper; we need him badly). In addition to Bowman, we have lost Antonio Allen for this class. He did not qualify. We'd like to place him, but he may go to Jacksonville University to play for his former high school coach. Antonio would have probably redshirted, but I was expecting him to develop into a good safety.

Yeah, I've read that Ingram has been cleared by the NCAA, but not by USC, and is appealing. I wasn't familiar with Bowman all that much, but Ingram is an important piece to the puzzle post-Jasper. I sure would hate to lose him...

Spurrier: Three members of recruiting class won't play
By JOSEPH PERSON - jperson@thestate.com

USC coach Steve Spurrier said today that three members of the Gamecocks’ nationally ranked recruiting class would not play for USC due to academic reasons.

Spurrier said that defensive back Antonio Allen and running back Eric Baker both failed to qualify and planned to enroll at either junior college or prep school. Spurrier said a third member of the 32-player class, whom he declined to identify, was denied admission to the university.

A source close to the situation said that player is Michael Bowman, a wide receiver from Wadesboro, N.C. Bowman met with the East Carolina coaching staff today about signing with the Pirates.

Bowman, a 5-10, 170-pounder, was offered by ECU, Colorado and Tennessee before signing with USC.

Spurrier said a couple other members of the incoming recruiting class, which was rated as high as No. 4 in the country, also have eligibility issues.

sucks!

edit: actually, since we over-signed, and had to move a number as greyshirts or whatever, this really seems to be playing out as planned by the coaches. So it doesn't suck so much, after all. I didn't think it through.....

It really sounds like a paperwork issue with Ingram. He's got the best chance to get in out of all of those guys I listed.

Like I've been saying, the numbers always find a way to work themselves out. It just so happens that the guys who aren't getting in right now are the guys we didn't expect to contribute until much later in their careers.

All hail WB.

You were spot on WB! Looks like it's working out pretty good so far. I just hope most of these guys go to prep or juco and want to come back.
