SEC Rumor Mill
Hot off the press or hot off the lips? Discuss SEC rumors here.
One of my friends told me his dad had heard up in Starkville that Tyler Russell might be thinking of transferring out of state. No sources or anything, so i was wondering if anybody else knew something.
Don't know why it's wishful thinking on our part since it's not like we need him. He'll be waiting another two years after this to play if Cam Newton comes in so it's not entirely out of the question he'd think about it. Actually leaving though is entirely different.
I am sure Mullen, Russell and his parents had this discussion when he was asked to think about his committment to MSU and to call Mullen once he had made his decision, I bet the RedShirt was discussed then, Looking forward to seeing this young man play,
false, from everything ive heard...mullen has already said more than once that he is the future of the program and that if he were to be forced to play this year, he would be the full time starter...
now, IF we do get newton, tyler will probably sit for 2 years and if he decides to leave, i will be disappointed big time but i guess we will see....
but me being the state fan that i am and always expecting the worse, i expect us not to get newton and tyler starting next year with relf still running option...and you know what, ill be perfectly happy with that...also take into account that russell has been a mississippi state fan for a long time...
But no, Tyler Russell is not leaving. It's not even 100% Newton is coming here yet. But regardless if he does or doesn't, Russell will be almost our every down QB. Russell is a pure pocket passer, Newton is pure spread. A ton of schools run a similar two QB scheme.
If Newton comes to State, he will start immediately and only come off the field in games already decided or to give Russell small glimpses of playing time for future development. Nothing against Russell at all, I love his potential, that's just the way it would be with a guy like Newton.
Anyway, what is this thread for other than to allow people to rile up ridiculously false rumors about their rivals?

Exactly my point. It's a little different, seeing as Tebow only came in during redzone plays, but you got my point.
Which leaves me to question, why isn't Mullen doing that now? He's the guy who called that to happen at Florida. We have virtually the same set of QB's but 100000 times worse.
Relf needs to come in every single time we're in the redzone.
I digress.
I don't see why Russell and Newton can't split 50/50. Newton isn't the best passer in the world. Russell can pass like no one's business. Look at it like this, we could almost run 2 complete different types of spread offense with 2 completely different QB's.
It would work. If everything works out, I'm starting to think we'll be in a REALLY good bowl before any of us would have ever thought.

I'd like a quarterback who has played in college next year anyway. Russell will still have never seen actual college action. Relf is just bad. It'd be huge for us to get Newton.
