Default Donovan resigning from UF
Source: Donovan to leave UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A source close to the University of Kentucky athletic program tells Fox 35 Sports that Billy Donovan will resign as Florida Gators' head basketball coach to take the same position at Kentucky.

The University of Kentucky has called a 4:30PM press conference in which the school is expected to announce the firing of head basketball coach Billy Gillispie. Kentucky has reportedly waited until a replacement coach is in place before letting go of Gillispie, who spent two seasons in Lexington.

Donovan led the Gators to back-to-back NCAA men's basketball championships in 2006 and 2007. After the '07 championship, Donovan agreed to become the head coach of the Orlando Magic, but changed his mind a few days later and returned to Gainesville.

The Gators have not made the NCAA tournament in either of the past two seasons.

Man I hope they're right. A couple of my friends said they saw him check into the Radisson last night downtown, and my mom just got home from work saying that Billy D's not anywhere to be found in Gainesville......man.....15 minutes to the press conference. I know they've said they won't announce the new coach, but it'd be great if it were Donovan.

I was at Cats Pause earlier reading the UF meltdown. It's like someone called them on weak football scheduling.

Are you saying that Gillespie was your first choice?

Do you mean like PT stating the Kats could run the table in the SEC? Anyway, I have no idea what you are talking about.

Where were you guys earlier when we were discussing this? I could've told you that Donovan had been at his beach condo for days, and had not been anywhere near Lexington.

Now they are saying that Donovan didn't issue that statement, that is was the Athletic Department. I dunno wtf to believe....I'm going to get drunk and go watch the Loserville game. Hopefully there's some more interesting details on any of this stuff when I stumble home later.

This is the direct quote from Donovan:

"In response to the rumors circulating about my interest in other jobs, I wanted to address this as quickly as possible. I'm committed to the University of Florida and look forward to continuing to build our program here." - Billy Donovan

This is the direct quote from the Athletic Department spokesperson:

"Billy (Donovan) will not be a candidate for any job that comes open, I can confirm.” - University of Florida spokesperson Fred Demerest
