A MSU jet has been in Hattiesburg 2 of the last 3 days. And it is reported that both times were to talk to Bower. I don't know how true it is but its interesting.

Interesting indeed.. I just really really doubt we would hire Bower. IMO it's gonna be one of the following:

1) Chris Petersen
2) Todd Graham
3) Kevin Wilson
4) Gary Patterson

maybe
5) Tommy Tubberville
Maybe not.

Didn't Peterson turn it down? I personally like Wilson but Patterson would probably be the best hire.

Petersen said he wants to stay in Boise.. but supposed he hasn't even been offered. No one has. On top of which, Oregon, reportedly his dream job assigned their OC as coach in waiting. BSU is also likely to get snubbed by the BCS this Sunday even though they went 12-0. BSU administration also cancelled a meeting to talk about a raise for Petersen. He only makes $900,000 annually as of now and we will at least double that. 2-2.5 M would make anyone reconsider. I'm not counting Petersen out yet.. he is very good friends with Greg Byrne so anything is possible.

I really don't like Todd Graham as head coach.. a supposed defensive minded coach who let Houston put up 70 on him.

I also think Patterson is the best option.. he and a good OC (such as Malzahn) would be a ridiculous tandem and we could likely retain Harbison as DC if we wanted to. Auburn really screws us over with the firing of Tubs. They may be interested in Leach or Patterson.. if they take Leach, Patterson may look to move to TT.. or hell they could just go after Petersen which would really suck for us.

Kevin Wilson would be a good hire also. He is being talked about the least which makes me think he will be a finalist. One thing is for sure, Byrne has this search locked down. There have been no facts whatsoever other than we will hire a young, energetic, aggressive, offensive coach who is a solid recruiter. Everything else is strictly speculation.
Maybe not.

My hats are off to Byrne. The guy seems like a winner. Leach just took his name out of the Washington position and supposedly TT is "doing their best" to keep him around.

Byrne is the best thing that could have ever happened to State athletics.. short of Urban Meyer or Nick Saban coming to coach the Dogs in '09.....
Maybe not.

im not going to count petersen out yet....i still think there is a slimmer of hope but not much...i dont see patterson coming even though i wish he would....tubs probably is not coming....

but i have said it before, i like graham...i like his fire....he is the anti-croom...he is a defensive guy who has VERY good offenses...croom was an offensive guy that had a team that had pretty good defenses....BUT if you look at when he was the DC at tulsa before becoming the HC there, his defense was top 40 i think....no matter what the guy knows how to coach and if he is interested we should give him a shot...he is supposedly interested in the auburn job also so if they et some one else, it looks like he still wants to get into the sec...

i have NO CLUE who our new coach is going to be but i think the fact that there have already been interviews that no one knows about make me think that someone we are not really talking about is going to get the job....kevin wilson, dan mullen, hell supposedly whittingham form utah called us....WHO KNOWS!!! gotta love the suspense though...

GO DAWGS!!!

I always respected Bower and his program but I've always thought that USM and schools like it benefit from their conferences low academic threshold...........thats why USM always did fairly well cuz they had alot of SEC caliber athletes that couldnt qualify in the SEC

Is that why Southern had one of the highest graduation rates in the country under Bower's reign?
