| "i.e. the rigors of coaching the Fighting Irish." First of all, Florida recruits the same area as Notre Dame, and that area is the United States of America. Second, what are the rigors of coaching the Fighting Irish during the season? You've got 51 weeks to prepare for Southern Cal. I'm sure it would be ultra-taxing on Urban Meyer to have to scheme for Navy, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Washington, Sisters of the Poor, Tallywacker U, the Helen Keller Women's School for the Blind and Deaf, Johnson and Whales, and the University of Phoenix Online. There is nothing about that Notre Dame job that should be taxing. It's just that Notre Dame hires people like Bob Davie, Tyrone Willingham, and Charlie Weiss. Urban would win a BCS bowl game in his first year up there, but he ain't going. | ||

| I think the job will be open soon enough for Meyer to have that option. Weiss is totally incapable of coaching up young talent, he is only worth a crap when he has seasoned players. I thought before that he was an excellent OC at New England but Im starting to believe that he was only riding the coat-tails of his QB. I don't see how anyone would want to move to South Bend over sunny Florida. | ||

| Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion... even what's his name from whatever paper that is in Ft. Myers. If Meyer gets tired of winning titles and competing in the best conference in cfb, to go to a dead program with no respect, no legitimate competition, and no bowl wins in the last 13 years, I'd be stunned. But, I've been stunned before; so, who knows.Seems awfully silly when he already had the chance to go there, he and Weis both have long contracts, and the money isn't relevant. The writer is right about one thing... we'll never be Notre Dame. Man, I hope not; that'd be one helluva fall from grace. If we go from winning National Championships to 3-9 seasons, and winless in bowls for over a decade, I'll be really disappointed. Tradition is a great thing, sometimes... except when it just becomes another word for HISTORY, like ND's tradition has. After all, Meyer also told his daughter, "We're going to Florida... that's the mountaintop.". | ||

| This article was "featured" on GatorCountry a couple of days ago...the "plot" of the article is centered around Meyer's feelings 4 years ago when both Florida and ND had job openings. ND offered Meyer, yet...he chose the Gators. Urban and Shelly Meyer are integral parts of the Gainesville community now...things have changed. Here's Buddy's response to Kerasotis' article: "Not to worry. It's much ado about nothing. I'm not going to scream "I was misquoted" because I wasn't. On the other hand, I made it very clear to Peter that in no way was I saying Urban was going to Notre Dame, that he'd finish the contract here and then make up his mind. That is not to say he won't re-up at Florida, but the point I was talking about is that because he is such a intense coach and puts so much of himself in it that I can't see him coaching for a long time without a break because he is in danger of burning out. The part that's left out here is that I suggested if he left Florida he wouldn't likely coach in the NFL and may get out of football for a couple of years and then go back to college. And I was asked where, upon which I mentioned the chapter in Urban's Way about his love for Notre Dame. In no way did I suggest Urban was leaving for Notre Dame now, or maybe even in five years. That's Peter's theory. Not mine. Peter Kerasotis has literally taken an idea and turned it into a full blown conspiracy theory. But hey, that's how he sells papers." | ||

| Well, not really if he leaves for Notre Dame. Whether you view Florida or Notre Dame as the better job is totally your opinion because a valid argument can be made for both. For me, give me 70-95 degree weather year round, beautiful women, and fast athletes 365 days of the year. The Notre Dame job does have its own benefits, though. | ||

| Speaking of crumbled tradition . . . the above statement is exactly what newspapers everywhere across the country have resorted to. | ||

| I know its just a conspiracy theory, but the only reason I even posted it was because the Blogger gives some interesting and very valid reasons as to why it could happen. The autobiography and quotes are relatively recent. I could see where Urban may have fallin in love with Florida, but I can also see how he may take the Notre Dame gig before his career is up (he's still a young coach). I didn't know until this blog about him wanting to take the ND job, and to a degree the traveling for recruiting is certainly a great reason. Notre Dame HAS to go nationwide as Indiana isn't good grounds for recruiting. Florida can cherry pick the nation and keep its primary focus in the backyard. Just pretty interesting stuff | ||

| He is too much a part of what is happening at Florida, now. I don't think he will be considering offers of any kind. He has a good thing going here and now. Why start all over? He has got things the way he wants them, and the future is always a challenge. What more could a coach want? | ||

I mean...they have such great weather up there in Indiana... They also have rich tradition...and love to cheat! They also have great respect and admiration from...sewer dwellers. They play hard schedules every year, heck...they even plan to play Baylor in a few years. They have an awesome bowl record...especially since the mid 90's. You get to go to a bowl game...and get destroyed. You get to lose National Championships to SEC teams! What's not to love?! Am I missing something? | ||
