Default New rumors at Arkansas 11/16/07
This afternoon, talk from Fayetteville media made it's way to statewide news. According to Clay Henry, of HawgsIllustrated.com. The future of Houston Dale Nutt as Arkansas Head coach will end this season.
Rumor/Fact?
Houston and the Razorbacks left for Little Rock today, to prepare for Mississippi State tomorrow. Nutt was ask about the rumors, and with a smile, he said, "That's all they are, just rumors" But like on the sidelines in Knoxville, Nutt didn't look himself. We learn at the start of this past week that board member's of the University of Arkansas, met behind close doors late last week and voted on the coaching situation at Arkansas. Four were in favor of getting rid of Houston, four went in favor of keeping him for another year pending on next years course. And the two remaining were undecided. Apparently Nutt got word of this meeting and it clearly was written on his face in Knoxville.
Henry stated his sources stem from Arkansas and Texas. Word has it, an offer is on the table for Houston to be hired as the new head coach at Southern Methodist University in Dallas Texas according to one of his sources. And still other schools are interested in Nutt's plans for 08.
But all in all. word is as we have received it late today, that Nutt will not be fired, but will resign as head football coach of the University of Arkansas, but will remain to coach tomorrow and in Baton Rouge next Friday.
It beginning to look as if the Nutt haters have got what they have wish for all these season's, But god help us all in the land of Razorback's. Cause in this age we now live in with high speed Internet and news when we want it, and how we like it, Bless the poor sap that replaces him with the next generation of hate mongrels.

Update: on this story...

Tonight on the 10:00 news, KTHV reported that Hooten's Football, is reporting that Houston Nutt will step down after the LSU game and will accept the Baylor University Head coaching position for a reported 2mill a year. Wow First SMU, now Baylor. Too Bad he isn't catholic, could have gone to Notre Dame, cover's most of the church schools.

No Dave, they didn't get into that. But that will be the talk next week. Michigan, LSU and Arkansas possible openings. This is going to be a media frenzy.

Two million a year??? Thats more than he gets at arkansas anyway, I saw that he gets 1.6 mill if we fire him, and has to pay 500,000 if he steps down.

Isnt Butch Davis an arkansas alumn?

Who cares Dave, Butch Davis isn't the answer. All that would do is bring a smile to the good folks of Springdale. Home of the Nutt haters.

I can't imagine Baylor being able to pay a coach $2million a year. I think the Baylor part might be a possibility, but the $2mill has got to be the rumor part of the info. The next several weeks are going to be a circle across the country with the many schools searching for replacements for their vacant coaching positions.

I agree Fish, Nutt's agent is Kinny Sexton. He also handle's Nick $aban. So he wants to get a figure out there on the open market, so he can get his cut. 2Mill is just a number in my opinion.

[UPDATE] Clay Henry at Hawgs Illustrated has backtracked from the earlier postings on his site, claiming now that he doesn't believe Nutt is the leading candidate at any of the four schools (none named), and that while talking with a dozen good sources led him to believe today that Nutt was leaving for another job, conflicting reports from other sources also led him to believe that the story was not solid.

Nutt says reports aren't true, decries 'rumors'

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Arkansas coach Houston Nutt scolded the media Saturday about reports indicating this will be is his last year with the Razorbacks.

"It wasn't true yesterday and it's not true today," Nutt said after Arkansas beat Mississippi State 45-31. "And it's not right to do that -- to make statements like that to your team -- unless you have a real source from either that athletic director of that school or me. And you don't, so you make up things."

Various reports have surfaced saying Nutt won't be back next year, although they did not give a clear indication of whether Nutt would be dismissed or leave on his own.

"I haven't talked to one athletic director except for (Arkansas' Frank) Broyles and (Arkansas) Chancellor (John) White, and so to make statements like that and try to disrupt your team and create all these stories, it's kind of foolish," Nutt said. "I felt sorry for our team because everybody's asking them what's going on, 'Is it true?' It's just a bad deal."

The university strongly denied Friday that any decision has been made on Nutt's future. Broyles is retiring at the end of the year and has said he'll leave a decision on Nutt's status to his replacement, Jeff Long.

Long was at Saturday's game but would not comment on Nutt's situation.

Arkansas entered the season in the Top 25 but quickly fell out. The Razorbacks lost their first three Southeastern Conference games this year, and fan unrest has been noticeable.

Nutt praised his players for playing through the distractions Saturday.

"I was just really pleased and proud of how they performed with everything going on," he said.

Star tailback Darren McFadden said it wasn't too hard to focus.

"We've seen and heard about everything," McFadden said. "It's just something we have to overlook. ... It is something coach Nutt told us was going on. I don't think there was any truth to the rumors that were going around."

Nutt was asked to assess his future.

"I go one day at a time. All I want to do is coach this season, and then we have an evaluation time after the end of each year with the athletic director -- this time, probably with Jeff Long," Nutt said. "Stop predicting and stop making up rumors. I would wait until after the meeting with the athletic director -- the new athletic director, Jeff Long -- and then make comments to get some facts."

I've heard this every season for the last 4 years, however, for some reason, I'm starting to believe this rumor this season.
