Jeffery could follow brother, teammates soon
By Phil Kornblut

USC has made a run on the talent from Calhoun County with WR Alshon Jeffery for the 2009 class, and pledges for the 2010 class from OL Eric Mack and LB Brandon Golson. The Gamecocks appear set to keep the flow of talent from the Saints moving to Columbia with an expected commitment from WR Shamir Jeffery (6-2 195) in the not too distant future. "I think it's going to happen sooner than later," said a source familiar with Jeffery's thinking. "I would expect it in the early weeks of the season, if not sooner." USC was the first to make a verbal offer to Jeffery. Tennessee also has verbally offered while Clemson and LSU have indicated they, too will offer. But Jeffery has his mind set on USC, according to the source. "He really wants to continue playing with his brother (Alshon Jeffery)." Shamir Jeffery is expected to be rated among the top players in the state for 2011.

Slawson commits to USC
By Phil Kornblut

6-8 forward RJ Slawson of Fort Dorchester Thursday announced a commitment to USC. Slawson said he told the Gamecock coaches of his decision Wednesday night. He picked USC over Clemson, Auburn, Cincinnati and VCU. "It's a relief," Slawson said. "I liked their facilities and coach Horn seems like a nice guy. He knows his stuff. He can help me get to the next level. Their playing style fits me perfectly. It's up tempo. If I want to shoot threes, i can shoot threes. If I want to go inside, I can go inside. The versatility suits me." Last season Slawson averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds per game. He's the second commitment for USC's 2010 signing class joining point guard Eric Smith of Mullins.

Mumphery still waiting on offer from USC, CU
By Eric Guimaraes

WR Keith Mumphery (6-2 197) of Vienna, GA has offers from Vanderbilt, Michigan State, Arkansas, Middle Tennesse, Oklahoma State, and Mississippi State. He is hearing from USC, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Nebraska, Georgia, and FSU. He just returned from a camp at FSU and was impressed with the talent. "They got a lot of great athletes in the state of Florida," he said. "It was pretty cool to see that." Mumphery was supposed to visit Clemson back in June but went on a family vacation instead. "I want to visit still," he said. "I like their offense. They are looking at be at defensive back of safety but I want to play wide receiver there. Their coaches are really cool too. They're all down to earth." He also likes USC. "They keep getting in great recruiting classes. They're going to be really good in a couple of years. I want to go somewhere like that. I think they might win 10 games this year." Mumphery does not have a favorite. "I'm going to take it slow and weigh out my options," said Mumphery.

Jones to visit USC next week
By Phil Kornblut

WR Nck Jones (5-10 165) of Byrnes is still strong on USC, and the Gamecocks remain strong on him. "I've been hearing nothing but good things from them," Jones said. "They tell me how much they want me to come down and play for them. My dad talked to coach Graham today (Tuesday)." Jones said he will visit USC this Tuesday, and he's going to Penn State July 25th. While strong on the Gamecocks, Jones maintains he's wide open regarding a decision and won't make a decision until after the season. Jones also has offers from Michigan, Northern Illinois and Georgia Southern.

It would be pretty sweet if he and Lattimore went ahead and committed to us!

Lattimore won't yet, and will probably wait till signing day, but I think he will be a Gamecock. The OL commits we are getting are huge in getting him, too. Garcia and some of the current players stay in contact with him as well. We are in good shape there.

Lattimore will be a Gamecock as well as Nick Jones (package deal). Also expect Dontrell Johnson and possibly (not very likely but possibly) Ricardo Allen to commit soon.

Lattimore set on three finalists
By Phil Kornblut

RB Marcus Lattimore (6-0 210) of Byrnes said Monday night Oregon, Penn State and North Carolina will be three of his final five schools when he cuts his list from nine to five in a couple of weeks. Lattimore was offerered Friday by the Ducks while his team was competing in a passing league in Eugene. Lattimore said he's undecided about the other two teams which will make the cut. He is sure that only one between USC and Clemson will make it. The others on his list of nine are Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, Penn State and Maryland. Lattimore made an unofficial visit to Rutgers over the weekend with teammates Chas Dodd and Torian Richardson. This Friday he and teammate WR Nick Jones will visit USC, and Saturday they will participate in the Gamecocks's Showcase Camp. "We'll be doing some drills, so I want to see how the coaches are going to handle that," he said. He had also planned to take an unofficial visit to Penn State but said he will wait and take an official visit to Happy Valley. Oregon and North Carolina also will get official visits. Lattimore does not have a favorite. He said he'll make his decision the day before Signing Day.

Looks like Lattimore is paying the penalty for being such a strong Gamecock lean. He dropped from fourth to seventh on Rivals' updated ranking list.
Yeah, they come to snuff the Rooster, but he ain't gonna die!!
