Default Urban Meyer and the Questions Polite People Don't Want to Ask
Let's start by saying I respect Urban Meyer as a great coach and a nice man and great father. The recent news was as unexpected to me as anyone.

Not in the medical condition, which I had reported on before, but the timing of the announcement.

This article is meant by no means to cast doubt upon the motives behind Meyer's announcement, but there are people who are asking questions that some see as not being "polite" to ask at this time.

So before the press finally canonizes St. Urban the First, we must at least ask ourselves what we believe the answers are to a few questions, and wait and see if Meyer gives us an answer on any of them.

1. Why now?
According to Kirk Herbstreet, Meyer says his condition is not life-threatening, and he has been dealing with it for four years. Why not tell the University privately, then tell the world following the Sugar Bowl game? Did he...

a. Just want to be the topic of conversation for the days leading up to it?

b. Want to use it as motivation to help inspire his team?

c. Learn something just in the last day or two medically that forced it to be brought up now?

Bullshit...! It is my business. When you call a press conference knowing every television camera in the USA will be pointed at you, Urban Myers made it my business.

When you announce you are leaving one of the (if not THE) highest profile coaching jobs in NCAA football, then Urban made it everybody's business.

The timing on this is NOT accidental. If you think that, you're an idiot!! He could have waited until after the game. Now he "Has a change of heart" and decides to take a Leave of Absence, geez... get real, the timing was expertly executed.

Nothing you said here makes any sense. It's only your business if he chooses to tell you. Perhaps you'd like to explain to us what this expert execution of timing has accomplished, and for whom?

It is what it is. He's taking time off to get himself healthy again and spend time with his family. Urban Meyer, his family and the University should be the only one's concerned about this decision. It doesn't affect me in any way at all.
Don't waste your time arguing with idiots. Just tell them they're right and leave it at that.

Maybe the guy just sat around enjoying the company of family during Christmas and thought to himself "Damn, I've missed a lot these last few years...and my health issues(while not life threatening) aren't getting any better. I should probably re-evaluate my priorities." Then he hastily decides to leave the program. Then he says "Wait a minute, football is a big part of my life too. Maybe I should just leave the possibility of returning open."

Sometimes people read too much into stuff

Let me go ahead and blow this thread completely out of the water...Urban did tell Jeremy Foley, his boss, prior to the announcement. Jeremy has known for quite some time (his own words today) that Meyer was dealing with health issues and wondered how Meyer could keep it up.

I'm not even trying to be funny when I say this. I believe Meyer is a little bit too emotionally involved with Tebow and the thought of him not being there next year just sent him over the already high pressure head coaching edge. I don't think I've ever seen a coach and player interacting the way those two have the last few years.
Yeah, they come to snuff the Rooster, but he ain't gonna die!!

Let's see...Tebow has helped Meyer and the Gators win 2 National Championships...a Heisman and other countless awards...tons of positive exposure...earned Florida millions of dollars in sales...I would probably have warm and fuzzies for him as well...wouldn't you?

As far as Tebow leaving causing the current issues with Meyer...you're joking, right? An accountable, sensible person couldn't possibly draw that conclusion.

No, I'm not joking. Meyer is having health problems, it's called a broken heart.

he may be in an overstressed/unhappy situation, decided one day to try and slide out and blame it on his health, wake up the next day and totally get a redo...oh wait...that just happened.
