Pretty sure we were recruiting them as well.

Fulmer built his legacy over years. This is one incident. It's beyond premature to say that this happened because Kiffin is in over his head.

This REALLY sucks for Tennessee; not only has Tennessee been improving as a team, but both Janzen and Richardson were poised to become major contributors next year.

Sig by Sabanocchio, a pretty decent guy for a Tennessee fan...

I don't think you guys are getting it. Of course they were recruited by a lot of different coaches. You don't know how good a player's character may be until you recruit them. It's not like Saban or Meyer would instantly know that these kids were bad apples. Of course they'd have to recruit them first to get that impression.

And I'm not saying that they ever DID get that impression. But obviously, if these kids will go out and commit armed robbery their character wasn't that great to begin with. A smart and experienced coach can see that a lot of times.

No one's perfect and this is only the first incident under Kiffin's tenure. He could turn around and clean the program up completely after this, but somehow, with his track record so far, I doubt it.

My biggest question is which coach is he going to throw under the bus on this one?

Kiffin really won't get the chance to discipline these 2 or 3. Even if they somehow dodge the legal system, which sounds unlikely, the school has codes of conduct that they probably won't bypass before Kiffin ever has the chance to tell them to get the f*ck off his team.

I know we all recruited the same kids; but I would remind at least some of the Vols fans, that some of us said it probably wasn't a good idea to be bragging about the kind of atmosphere Kiffin was instilling, and boasting that he hadn't had any players arrested, when he'd only been at the school for 6-8 months. It almost always comes back to bite you. I guess it's safe to say that Kiffin isn't some magic disciplinarian with a bunch of answers that the other coaches don't have.

Still, I'm sorry for you fans, and am also one of the folks still being amazed at athletes with tons of potential being this stupid.

Even the best coaches take chances on kids thinking that they can coach and lead them to be better people especially when they are as talented as these kids were.

I believe with proper discipline and coaching you can help kids to make better decisions, but it doesn't always take. Jimmy Johns was such a kid. This incident does not necessarily reflect back on Kiffin no matter how much we disagree with his mouth. I wish more of the things that he said would bite him in the butt, but this is not his fault.

I don't hate it for them, but I do hate it for the team. Those turds will get what is coming to them, but for the coaches and players that have invested time and effort into helping these guys become better football players, this is truly a waste.

This would never happen at Georgia. But that's only because armed robbery is hard when you drive a scooter.

I don't think this necessarily falls onto the head coach. These kind of situations happen everywhere...although it does most often happen when a new coaching staff is in place but that's only because kids haven't bought into the system yet, or they are freshmen and don't know any better. Tough luck Vols.
MIRACLES HAPPEN!

Sorry, not buying it. The position of head coach carries with it certain responsibilities. One of those is being responsible for the actions of those under your leadership. If 3 kids in his program had to resort to armed robbery, that's his fault and no one else's (aside from the personal responsibility of the 3 involved).

Sucks for the Vols, really stupid choice these guys made.
Kiffn's first recruiting class doesn't look quite as good now.

If this happened at Alabama the Auburn fans would claim a(nother) moral victory over Alabama. They would have a field day and it would never end. They will probably be calling Bama thug U just because we were recruiting one of those guys.

And what the hell do you think Kiffin's reaction will be? He's going to kick them off the team. In fact, that decision is out of his hands anyway.
Dude you have no idea what you are talking about. Almost every team in the SEC was after these kids. Every team has their problems with arrests. Our team has been nothing but completely disciplined all year. These guys will be removed from the team and we will move on. Of course we will continue to recruit thugs with talent in an effort to change their lives around and so will every other team in the SEC. Everything has to go back to Kiffin when it comes to you doesn't it?
