I've been keeping up with his teams the past few seasons and they are completely dominant, with this team being his best one yet. Sure its only Class A, but he also destroys AAA and AAAA teams every year. He's looking to play in his 4th straight championship game and win his 3rd straight. His Chesterfield team got that mission off to a good start by winning their first playoff game of the year 70-0.
Does anyone else think we need to find a spot on the staff for this guy? He obviously knows how to coach and get the most out of what he's got. Plus he has ties to the school and would probably be good at recruiting. I say get the man in here and give him a position to coach. Then see how he does and allow him to work his way up if he's being productive.
What position do you want to give him? QBs belongs to SOS and Mangus...he's not going to get receivers, cause Jr. has that...Wolford was JUST brought in along with Graham to take care of the running game amongst the OL and RBs...what else is there on the offensive side of the ball?

Obviously he'd probably be best suited for the QB Coach, but he aint gonna get that. Like you said with so many new faces we cant really get anyone out of here to make room for him now. Im not sure if he would take the spot right now anyway. From what I've heard his nephew has moved up from FL. to live with him while he goes to HS. Apparently he's a pretty good athletic QB. Taneyhill may wanna remain in the HS ranks until his nephew finishes. I would've preferred Taneyhill over Mangus though. He was a great QB, is a great coach, and would probably relate really well to Garcia. But anyways...that aint gonna happen. Still, I'd like to see him take a spot on the staff sometime over the next few years.

Tanneyhill, while a good HS coach, knows very little- if anything, about Spurrier's system and what he expects out of his QBs. Also, Tanneyhill has zero college coaching experience. Mangus played for Spurrier, understands his system and what he expects of QBs, and has college coaching experience (even head coaching experience). Mangus was the right decision- hopefully Tanneyhill can work his way into the college ranks, so that one day he can "come home to roost", but to suggest we should have hired a 1A coach as our QB coach over another, more qualified coach who has experience with SOS' system, is pretty ludicrous.

He could be our receivers coach and maybe call some plays. The guy we currently have doing that obviously isn't doing a very good job.
I guess thats a pretty good point. I'd just like to see him join the ranks at some point. Mangus is doing a pretty good job so far(considering we still dont have an O-line) but some of the same problems are plaguing our QB/offense. Of course ya gotta give him time, and I do think he'll do a good job with Garcia. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how things unfold.

Hell, we have 3 guys calling plays and apparently none of em are doing a very good job. But I think the whole "3 playcallers" thing may be one of the problems. I say just let one guy call the plays. Like dude said though, Spurrier aint gonna demote his own son. And Mangus probably was the best fit for Spurrier's offense. Problem is Spurriers offense hasnt done anything since Blake Mitchell left.

See, that's just f'n stupid and I'm not sure if I can ever be convinced of otherwise. No wonder there's so much confusion and bad news bears of football going on. I wonder if we do that so there's less finger-pointing and blame for all the FUBAR plays we run or, as often is the case, not called because it doesn't get relayed to Garcia in time.
And of the three-headed playcalling monster, not one of those heads can override the others and try sticking with what works? Miles was running pretty damn effectively the whole first half and our OL was actually doing pretty well -- think we had or were real close to 90 yards rushing in the first half -- Miles gets no rushing attempts AT ALL FOR THE ENTIRE SECOND HALF and he's our leading rusher!
It's like playing this friend of mine on Madden.....all you gotta do is get up by a TD on him and he goes immediately to catch-up mode even if it's still the 1st quarter. He does nothing but pass, mostly bombs and all I gotta do is play dime, double his best receiver and wait for the INTs, sacks and 3-and-outs to start stacking up.
This BS of having 3 different guys calling plays is about as good an idea as it was switching QB's out every single play like SOS tried a year or two ago. It was embarrassing to watch that spectacle then and it's embarrassing watching our offensive playcalling now. I seriously think I could use the Madden playbook and call a defensive game to beat what we do on O right now...there's just no imagination, no misdirection, no using one play to set up another....just bland, blah, let's-try-this-and-hope-it-works playcalling. So I blame all three I guess though I'm fairly sure one calls more than the other 2 and it ain't SOS or G.A.

I think the improvement for Garcia over last season has to be attributed primarily to Mangus (as much as any player's improvement can be attributed to a coach). His first year here, and Mangus is already proving his worth. I'm looking forward to seeing Garcia's continued improvement over the next couple of years under Mangus.
But I agree...I'd like to see Tanneyhill get on a Gamecock staff at some point in the future.

All great college coaches gotta start somewhere...
