34 bowl games doesn't bother me but I do however believe that teams with a .500 record should not qualify. I don't know if there would be enough teams with at least a 7-5 record to fill up all the games but 6-6 doesn't deserve to be rewarded. Bama went to bowl games in '06 and '07 with a 6-6 record and I personally felt like we needed to stay our asses in Tuscaloosa especially in '06. I remember back in '03 when Northern Illinois beat a good Maryland team and turned right around and beat Alabama in the same season and finished with 9 wins and no bowl invitation. That ain't right.
12 National Titles
21 SEC Titles
56 Bowl Games
31 Bowl Victories
GOT TRADITION?

But it seems that if we did that it would encourage teams to join weaker conferences. As I said before the mid-tier SEC teams that get matched up against the CUSA champion usually win. SC could join the Big East and compete for conference titles every year, but we wanted to play in the best football conference in the country. I dont think we should be punished for that.
When 6-6 teams make a bowl, are there 7-5 or 6-5 teams that are left out? I don't feel that .500 season deserves a bowl game. Otherwise I like all the extra games.
Were you blessed? I guess for never knowing which road you're choosing.

i can see the point from a reward standpoint of being too many teams/bowls, but from a cfb fan, more football is better than less. im def for more games...im not going to complain about there being more fb on tv...the mini bowls dont mean a whole heck of alot, much like the nit for basketball. newyears day bowls and beyond is much like the ncaa tourney. the more sports options i see the better...and not all matchups are bad. the bowls usually try to make them interesting.
Everything about the college football season that happens after the conference championship games is TERRIBLE! Not only are there 2 times too many bowl games, but the selection process for these games are ridiculous. You're likely going to have a 12-1 Houston team that posted 3 wins over BCS conference teams (OK State, TX Tech, And MS State... 2 of those on the road) and they are destined to be banished to the frieking Liberty Bowl pitted against an SEC bottom feeder who posted a sub .500 record in conference! That's a REAL problem! If the bowls were about ANYTHING other than revenue generation, they might serve a purpose. As they are, they're nothing but exhibition scrimmages. Nobody gives a crap about these games anymore. Getting invited to a bowl game USED to be an honor, but now EVERYBODY goes. It wasn't that long ago that I remember sweating out a 7-4 record as it likely wasn't good enough.... and rightly so! Hell, now a 6-6 record for a major conference team virtually guarantees a bowl game. It's garbage!
Furthermore, when was the last time even the big games meant anything? The last time the Orange Bowl was significant? It's also now a downer to lose the SECCG thanks to the fact that you're going to face an upstart mid-major in New Orleans. It's hard to get up for those games... right Bama and Georgia?? And like it or not, it's time to start including others in the mix. The Mountain West Conference has arguably been a better conference for several years now than the Big East, ACC, and even the Big 10.
Finally, the bowls need to go back to ending on New Years Day. Playing games beyond January 1st is a stupid idea and doesn't make these games any more compelling or interesting. The season's already been over for a month at this point... get on with it already.
One side note... PLEASE stop allowing FOX to broadcast any games of importance. They are TERRIBLE!!
It's amusing you chose the Liberty Bowl as an example of this alleged irrelevance. You complain about the possibility of a 12-1 Houston team facing a "bottom feeder" SEC school that comes in with a sub .500 record in conference. Well last year it was a 9-4 ECU ball club with wins over Va Tech and WVU that came in to face the Cats, a team that also fits your description. The only problem being the "bottom feeder" won the friggin' ball game. You seem disgusted that Houston might have to play a similarly irrelevant game but what the hell is irrelevant about it when ECU LOST THE GAME?! It seems patently relevant in establishing the reality of bcs conferences versus the "bottom feeder" likes of Conference USA. Besides, exactly how is ANY bowl game outside of the national championship relevant? So maybe we should just have one bowl game and move on.

And before that SC beat Houston in the Liberty Bowl. Actually, Im pretty sure that the SEC usually wins that matchup. Kinda makes his argument irrelevant.
I love CFB and even Pro as much as anybody, But there are way too many bowl games. It should be used as an advancing tier system and make them mean something. I know this has been said PLENTY of times, but Div. 2 has a playoff system and you never hear of Northwest Apalachain state for the Blind complaining that they never had a a legitimate shot of winning their championship. Every other sport has a playoff system of some kind, Why can't we have one to finally but this BS to rest....
