With such high expectations for this season crashing faster than the stock market during the depression, am I the only one that wonders if Houston Nutt is the right guy for the job? Do Rebel fans really want to win a National Championship, or are we once again settling for an occasional bowl appearance here and there? What happened between the fire and excitement of last season and the embarrassing mess we've witnessed this season?
im not sure a national championship is going to happen at ole miss with seemingly little effort going toward in state recruits. that being said, lsu is the only team that legitimately has an opportunity to win a ncg while saban is at alabama. bammer is cherrypicking surrounding states and gleening the best from his own state. thats too much talent and it just so happens that lsu is insulated from the bamma draw because it is its states only big school and geographically isolated from prying bama eyes.
No, if you want a national championship winning coach you have to go find either a young up-and-coming, or go buy a national championship winning coach away from someone else.
Since you are the other school in Mississippi, I'm assuming yall's athletic budget doesn't include $3-$4 million a year to pay a coach, so go out and hire someone's 30 year old OC, HC, or whatever.
Nutt never took Arkansas anywhere close, so why would he with Ole Miss?
Not bad mouthing, just making a point. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.
This is only his second year. I'd give him 4 or 5 more before you start calling for his head. You also have to temper your expectations. I don't think MNC's are in your future. If you win 8 or 9 games a year and go to bowl games every year, I think that's doing a pretty good job at Ole Miss.
Ummmm. After Orgeron, I don't think Ole Miss had their eyes set towards a NC with Nutt. It was more like hoping for improvement and getting the program back in contention for the West. The state of Mississippi will never win another football NC.

There is no doubt that many will look back at the season and ask what happened. We are just too weak on OL and have a head-case for a qb right now, which I don't think anyone expected. Nutt is fine here. I think he will have us winning 7-10 games a year and maybe sneak us into the the SEC champs. The poster was right about Alabama. I think they will be the dominate team for the West for many years to come.
If you are expecting a National Championship then no. If you are expecting to put a good team on the field and maybe win an SEC west title, then you are fine with Houston Nutt. Ole Miss wasn't good without him, they are solid now, I say give him time and you will eventually see results.

Yea, Nutt is a pretty good HC and he deserves some time to find the winning combination. Hey JB, if Utah can go undefeated and play in a BCS bowl then there is no reason why Ole Miss can't compete for SEC championships and even the NC.
i say the state needs to alternate years in which its sec schools field a football team, the other sec school transfers its money for a decade to the other program, that program hires nick satan, errrr, saban, pulls in crazy recruits, wins a couple of nat championships and then its the other schools turn to be in power for a decade and the other to hibernate. its the only way...

Unless Ole Miss could leave the SEC and play Utah's schedule, then, yeah, there's a reason.

Hell I think Ole Miss was way overrated and I think Snead is way overrated. I wouldn't say they will never win a NC but I don't think Nutt will. Go beat LSU and Miss State and ya'll will feel alot better.
Nutt will probably get Ole Miss to the level he took Ark. too. Only thing is that he wont play for any SEC titles unless Bama and LSU both have down years at the same time and he doesnt slip up against Ark. and/or Auburn on said year. Yall should make it to a bowl game every year and about every 1-3 years it will be a New Years Day bowl. If you're looking for more than that then no, he isnt the right guy. But then again if you're looking for more than that who is the right guy?
Screw this thread. Nutt is the best coach we have had in over ten years! I aint trading him.
I would have wanted to keep Cutcliffe is I were an Ole Miss fan. He is about to take Duke to a bowl game, but I agree. Houston Nutt is the best coach Ole Miss has had recentally.
