Default Award for most overrated coach goes to...
Pete Carroll-USC

No matter how good their recruiting classes are they still find ways to lose to inferior teams every year. Give a coach like Brian Kelly or Nick Saban those players and they would never lose a game.

Wow, first loss by double digits since he took the job in 2001. CLEARLY OVERRATED!!! This might actually be the first year since 2002 his team doesn't win its conference title and goes to a BCS bowl.

PLEASE tell me this post wreaks of sarcasm!

NOBODY wins them all!! If you don't like the guy or don't like way he runs his program that's one thing. But all the guy does is produce results on the field! Overrated??? That's about the stupidest thing I've ever heard!
Phyllis-But it is a big deal. You almost killed Stanley.
Dwight-Yeah right! I filled him full of butter and sugar for 50 years and forced him not to exercise!

Yes its all sarcasm. Carroll might be the best coach CFB. A lot of folks say he is only good because he is USC coach but the truth is USC was is bad shape when he got there. When you are in the top 1% of your field you deserve credit.

I dunno if I'd say Pete is overrated... the real award goes to Jim Tressel.

I think it's true to an extent...at least as far as recruiting and talent is concerned. I mean he can get pretty much any player he wants in an entire region of the country. I don't think USC has to fight for recruits the way AU, Bama, UGA, Florida, LSU, Tenn do. Throw FSU and Miami in there as well. Then you have middle tier ACC and SEC schools going after what's left. Then we're all fighting over Texas guys with the Big XII schools. Yet he still manages to lose games he should be winning every year. I think it's a valid point.

If you guys want to talk about how good recruiting classes compared to what some of the teams have done, look no further than Mack Brown at Texas and Bob Stoops at Oklahoma.. I still think the sweater-vest is the most overrated coach.. but you could throw those two in as well.

Mr. Rogers is definitely the most over-rated, but Carrol has to be in the conversation. He doesnt even have to be a good recruiter because the school sells itself. You get to go spend your college years in LA and get treated like a pro team. So they can pretty much get whoever they want from over there and come across the country and take some from over here as well. It should easily be the most talented team in the country ever year.

Now of course no coach could go undefeated every year, but lots of coaches would never lose to Stanford with that kind of talent. Every year So Cal loses to a team they shouldnt...but it actually probably works out better for em. That way they can once again get matched up with a vastly inferior little ten team and play them at home to add another BCS Bowl win to their record books. I dont see how anyone could say that the condoms' stats arent padded or that Carrol isnt over-rated.

Yes. This guy lives off the mediocre coaching in the B10.

I think there's a man in Athens with 100 Grambling helmets in the back of his truck that could challenge for that title.

The idea that Pete Carroll is an overrated head coach is comical. Think about it, a loss for his program is so rare that when they do drop a game, there's a thread created about it declaring his incompetence. This was his second double digit loss ever at USC, but he's overrated? Yeah...

As for how easy it is to recruit at USC? He made it that way. USC was living in mediocrity before Carroll came in and changed things around.

You may not like him nor his team, but you have to respect what he's done.

However I think it could also be argued that they never play anyone. They are stuck in an inferior conferance with really only two good teams, USC and Oregon, and, well, we saw what Oregon did to them. They lose to teams like Stanford and Washington. And you cant argue the "they played Ohio State" point because, well Ohio State is in the same boat USC is in.
I would like to see Carroll put his team up against Alabama, or Florida, or even Kentucky. I bet they would get destroyed!!!!
But I think Bob Stoops is the most overrated coach in college football.
