It is wonderful to have more than enough really good receivers. Julio is definitely one of them, and I love knowing he is there. He is the most physical one of the group and will punish anyone in the opposing secondary. I wouldn't trade him and I hope he stays at Bama for as long as we can keep him.

its fun watching a player whose tough as nails like a Julio with his refusing to go out of bounds ALL WAYS and delivering as well as taking big blows...........but theres a reason WR's catch balls then go out of bounds and he's finding out

you just can't play that aggressive with a wide recievers body and expect to stay healthy..as a coach you would hate to take away that aggressive nature of a player but hopefully they're telling him to stop taking 10 hits on every catch, cuz sometimes it just seems he has something to prove

he did play with and struggled thru injuries at the beginning of the year and now that he's a lil better McElroy is struggling a little so its a little bit of a timing issue

he has incredible hands and we will all see that soon, the way this season has turned out is not a reflection on his talent (you hear me TRB)..........just stay tuned

and come on Tide posters, don't be so hard on Hardfightinsoldier, its a legitimate thread and his OP had valid points to discuss/argue

I'll admit it, now. I think Green is the better receiver at this point.

But here's where you're wrong in your analysis. Even though he has other playmakers around him and that should be enough to keep defenses honest, they still haven't let up on the coverage of Jones. He's always got at least 2 and sometimes 3 guys around him. UT was the first game in a LONG time that covered him one on one and what happened? He tied a career high in receptions. One on one, he is usually golden, but he does struggle to get open. His field awareness and ability to stay in bounds on the sidelines as well as his ability to carry an entire defensive team on his back and gain yards, makes him one of the best receiving threats in this league. The argument against this last year was that Green had better receivers around him than Jones and that forced defenses to stay honest and cover Green one on one. These defenses still aren't letting up on Julio even though we have better personnel around him now and that is the difference. That being said, Julio isn't even the team leader in receiving yards and wasn't even 2nd on the team until the UT game when Peek was out.

There's no excuses for his performance really. He is dropping some balls that he should catch but he's also making plays in other areas on the field. He's a great blocker, he can return kicks if needed, he's good at knowing where he is on the field, and he's one of the most physical receivers in the NCAA. But he is struggling and isn't catching the amount of passes everyone expects. Still, his presence alone is a huge factor in game planning for other teams. You want to see Bama completely shut down on offense? Take Julio out of the football game. Right now, I chalk up his struggles to defenses focusing on him.

And struggling is such a subjective term anyway. Because some argue that the other things he does on the field more than make up for the lack of receiving yards and TDs.

Yea, not to stir the pot any more but from an unbiased perspective, AJ Green is better. I would almost go so far to say much better, but I'll stop just short.
I'll just regress, because I feel I've made myself perfectly redundant.

oh Julio is definitely valuable on special teams, hell did you see the heighth he got on that FG attempt?

right now, interestingly enough though I believe if Julio were out a couple of games, we would flourish..........it seems that we're focusing on a boxed reciever trying to get him involved and without him, the defenses would play more straight up and honest and we wouldnt feel the need to focus on one receiver

Yup. You know what I respect about Julio more than anything? The fact that he's not one of these prima donnas out there. He's not complaining about his lack of looks or balls thrown to him. He's a football player and goes out there and does his job. He blocks for Ingram on those runs outside. He will play special teams and jump 5 feet to try to block a field goal. He does all these things and a lot of the time is wide open and Mac doesn't even look his way sometimes figuring he's covered, but does he complain? No. Here's a kid who could have easily went to UF or USCw or some other school with tons of depth on offense and could be lighting up NCAA stat sheets and records right now. Instead he chose to come to Alabama and be a part of what we're building here. He's a very humble player and I'm glad he's here because he's giving his all for this team.

What? Julio's in a slump? No way man Julio is gooood. When he gets the ball thrown in his general direction he comes down with it. You need to forget about his stats because he makes a 10x bigger impact than his stats tell. And plus why would you throw to him when you have a back like Ingram. I dunno bout you but I would much rather run the ball and control the clock AND wear the defense out than throw it around.
"Give him six!!!"

He's a good football player. He does everything he's asked to do and seems to do it with a good attitude. He's a great blocker. I just don't think he's a "great" one. He's only got like 2 career TD catches. Thats just not what I would have expected at this point in his career. Good but not great. He's got the ability but it hasn't translated into much so far. I guess all that really matters is that Bama is 8-0.

His stats don't tell the story THIS YEAR and there's alot of reasons already mentioned why, but Julio is better than ANY receiver you buggers can name, ALL DAY!

And I'm gonna refer back to the first post Tider27 made in that we are 8-0 and therefore I do not give two dumps what any other fan thinks of Julio.
