Sectalk UF-UT perspective...
I know...this dead horse has been beaten enough. Just one more thought from this Gator.

First...I was disappointed when I left the game. I did want the Gators to kick the complete shiat outta Kiffin. I have nothing against the Vols as a team...I think Eric Berry is the best DB in the country, hands down. But Kiffin is a pompous ass and needed a little lesson in humility. But then...I realized something. Other than the beatdown we gave the Vols in '97, the games have always been close. I remember last season's 30-6 game...heck, UT had more yds than we did...the game was closer than the score indicated.

For all the Vol posters that have used the phrase "I'm not happy we lost, I'm happy we showed improvement"...I give you the following stats:

UT actually played better vs the Gators last season. True...there's a 2 TD difference in the score...a fact that would've been erased had Tebow not done the unthinkable...however, do you guys really think you did better? Here's a little reality for you:

OFFENSE COMPARISON:

-Last year, UT passed for 162 yds vs the Gators...this year: 93 yds.

-Last year UT did rush for 21 fewer yds...96 in '08 compared to 117 on Saturday.

-Last year, UT had a total of 258 yds of offense, this year: 210 yds..

-Last year, UT had 16 first downs...this year: 13 first downs.

DEFENSE COMPARISON:

-Last year, UF only passed for 96 yds vs UT...this year: 115 yds.

-Last year, UF only rushed for 147 yds vs UT...this year: 208 yds.

-Last year, UF only had 243 yds of total offense...this year: 323 yds.

-Last year, UF had 16 first downs vs UT...this year: 20 first downs.

I have to admit...I thought UT's defense did a great job. However, when comparing the numbers to last season...it would seem that UT actually did better with the former coaching staff. Just food for thought.

Remember, if it weren't for that Tebow fumble, the score very well could have been 30-6 again.

if, ifs and buts were candies and nuts...

Sure, but it could have very well been 24. It was just a matter of capitalizing on a mistake. I'm not sure statistically that UT played that much better, in fact, I think the OP shows that UT wasn't.

Oh, thank God, a UF-UT thread. It's about time! One can only hope this will be expanded to an additional Kiffin-Meyer thread so we can all finally discuss last week's matchup. Yay.

I think the obvious point you're missing GH, is that Florida returned a lot more guys than UT did, so naturally you would expect to be better. Also, the game was at home this year, another thing that you would think would swing the advantage to Florida.

Anyway, regardless of the outcome, or whether or not UT is on the right track with Kiffin... I'm happy to be 3-0 and that we're having to make excuses for wins.

The bottom line is that we're still unbeaten and have every opportunity to play for another SEC and National Championship.

That's all that really matters to me, regardless of whether or not UT is coming back.

I think what most Gator fans are missing that Sabanocchio is there is a lot to be excited about up in Knoxvegas. That pretty much sums it up. I mean, surely he wouldn't be sitting back screaming, "hahahahahaha you only beat us by 10," would he?

You didn't look at the stats? I'm not grasping, because I'm not caring.

I'm not making excuses, because again, I don't care. I would be happy if UF won by 1 point. Think about it, Ole Miss beat UF at home last year. If UF wins every game by 1 point, I'll be happy. Do you think 2002 OSU was upset that they won close games? I don't think so.

I read another little shot at Fulmer from Kiffin today; and I just had to point something out after the article.

Regarding playing Florida, Kiffin said, "When I got here, that's something they told me about, that you better get your team ready to go play them, because we've been scared of them in the past. I think it was obvious Saturday we weren't."

Can you believe this shameless self-promoter? You couldn't even give the guy a compliment or a pat on the back if you wanted to, because you'd have to interrupt his praise for himself, and there isn't any more room on his back for another hand because both of his are already there.

In any event, I thought that was pretty shi**y; so I pointed out that Fulmer, the coach who won 152 games, 5 division titles, 2 SEC titles, and a NC for UT, actually WON HIS FIRST 6 GAMES as the Vol coach, including 2 wins over UGA and 1 over UF. He then lost 1 game, and went on to win the next 8. Kiffin has already proven he doesn't measure up to Fulmer... the guy he likes to keep bashing. See, that's what somebody does when they know they aren't anything special, and they need a scapegoat for their lackluster performance... who better than the previous staff?

And Fulmer has been nothing but classy since his fire. Right. He's been every bit as controversial as Lane Kiffin with some of his comments. There are about 2 out of 100 people right now that would prefer Fulmer over Kiffin. That's pretty heavy.

I don't even care about the stats of last years game. That game was over in the first quarter. It was like 17-0 before you can blink an eye. I had a friend come into town with Cubs/Cards tickets and I could not see the game as I was at the Cubs game. Friends watching the games texted me scoring updates. By the 2nd inning of the game it was 17-0. Later I watched the tape. We sucked big time last year and the only similarities between the two years was that our defense kept the score down. Also, last year was at home and we were supposed to be a good team just coming off a SEC championship appearance. This year we were playing in the swamp coming off a losing season where we fired our coach playing the defending champs. Nice stats, good post, and good thoughts, but WRONG.

The Vols played very hard and had a good defensive game plan but, they played keep away on offense in hopes they wouldn't get blown out but, on the flip side of that, it was Florida's job to stop them too.

This rivalry is going to become one of the most heated in the country, I think.
Meyer possibly when he got the Kiffin News

Losing Cutcliff was hard on Tennessee there's no doubt to that what so ever. I think Fulmer made a poor decision by allowing Clawson to implement the spread right away. You need the players for a particular season. Hear me out, I know it's about Meyer, but when he first came to UF, UF was more pro-style, and had a pro-style QB that did NOT fit in with the spread. So what he did was modify for his players. The same thing that Fulmer allowed to happen is going on at UVA right now.

I know people that have been shouting for Bowden's head for the better part of a decade, and I think that's pretty classless, because if it weren't for Bowden, FSU would be nowhere near the national attention getter that it is now. I know that UT is different because they're the historical second power in the SEC, but they weren't as competitive as they old Neyland days. Sure Majors and Dicky put together some good teams, but nothing compared to what Fulmer had put together.

I think Fulmer's second biggest mistake was not living up to the times. He started to get an "entitlement" complex about recruiting, "kids want to come here because we're Tennessee." Well, we all know in the world of recruiting that's probably only 25-50% of it. Facilities play a role, and so do the relationships that are built with the coaches. (And really so do the lies that all coaches tell their prospective recruits.) Had Fulmer hired a better OC, or at least played to his players, and paid better attention to recruiting, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Agreed, and I love it. I remember when UF/FSU had national championship implications every year for both teams, just like in the Manning/ Wuerffel era...

LOVE IT.
