Actually, he should be second behind Broyles. I thought for some reason he had slightly more wins.... but he's definitely ahead of Holtz and Hatfield.

I like coach Nutt, wanted him to stay and thought he got a raw deal but I honestly think it is working out well for all parties involved. I am more than please with Petrino at this point. His work ethic is sic and he is a much better recruiter than coach Nutt. He is not the players coach that Nutt is but both styles will work. I like the professional approach he has to every aspect of the game. I root less and less for Ole Miss these days because of how arrogant some of their fans have become but it has nothing to do with coach Nutt. I wish him nothing but the best.

Nutt had more wins because he coached the Hogs for 9 seasons, vs 6 for hatfield, 7 for Holtz. both averaged more wins per season, both won conference championships, and both went to what would now be BCS bowls.

Hatfield won 56 games in 6 years, had 3 10 win seasons and two SWC cahmpionships. His worst record was 7-5 in his first year. Nutt had back to back losing records in '04 and '05.

It's like saying DeBose and Shula were better coaches at Bama than Saban, after all, they have more wins.

Edit: Nutt would have had to have more than slightly more wins to catch Broyles, he was some 70 behind.

Both teams are happy with the coaches they have. This year will determine whether the Arkansas fans say "damn, he has changed.. He can actually win when he's supposed to" or they will say "Told ya Ole Miss fans.. boy i'm glad we got rid of him"

I was personally more angry that he ran off Damian Williams than Mustain. I think Mustain would have ultimately been a better QB than C. Dick was, but under Nutt's system (much like Saban's) a QB is a game manager and really can't make many mistakes and that pointed more towards Dick than Mustain.

I also think he was pressured into hiring Malzahn when he didn't want to, but our offense looked pretty sweet under his command and went back to the old smoke draw or run up the middle stuff as the season went on.

I think Nutt was a good coach for us at that time, he brought us up a bit in name recognition from the horrible 90s, but had also reached his apex. I wanted him gone, but didn't "hate" him until he signed up with Ole Miss. That really took the polish off the many years of "loving that helmet." Not to mention I was sick of listening to his post game interviews where every player that did something was "special" and every time a bad play was called he "really wished we could have that pass back." He also never really much cared about recruiting at any position other than tailback and offensive line and allowed the defensive recruiting to basically turn into an Arkansas high school all-star team with random sprinkling of talent from other states with family connections to the program.

So, in summation I didn't "hate" him as our coach, but wanted to move on. I started "hating" him when he did the same thing at Ole Miss as he did here (inherit lots of talent, have a huge first season, try to calm down huge expectations of his second year). Now I am waiting on the rest of what he did here to happen there (not come close to meeting those expectations and throw a few people under the bus to explain it all).

Personally I was glad he left, Ole Miss or not. Houston Nutt getting a raw deal is ridiculous in my opinion. He had plenty of chances here and it was time for both sides to just move on. Nutt lost me after the 2004 season. Not that I didn't wish him well after that, but if he couldn't win with that team he wasn't going to win at all. I can only handle so much of the 'rah rah' crap. Ten years is enough and at this point Ole Miss is happy with their coach and we are happy with ours.

The best thing Nutt does as a coach is he's a great motivator.....Now me personaly I like a coach that is best at coaching....

He has never ever develpoed a QB while he was here.....Hell Pertino made Casey Dick look more like a QB in 1 year than Nutt ever did in 3.....

Nutt likes to blame others for the teams short comings instead of taking it himself.....

Smoke draw on 3rd and long will only catch other teams off guard if you dont do it 20 times a game....

Calling the fans slaps is not a good way to influance people into getting behind you.....

I have never like the fact that he was "a players coach". I like hardnosed coaches. Thats just me.....

I got tired of beating out the SunBelt for players.....

He lied about the Ole Miss job....

Those are just some of the things.....Im sure I could come up with more if given the time....

Oh and by the way....He did not quit.....He was fired......
WPS .......Giggity Goo

What always really got me was that everyone acted like we threw away Wonka's Golden Ticket when he was fired. He had 10 years to show what he could do, to show what his ceiling was. And that ceiling was a Cotton bowl win in his second season. He had 9 other seasons to do better, and the highest he brought us was a loss in an SEC Championship game and an Independence Bowl win.

I didn't hate him. I just wanted a new coach. It was afterward, though, when all the other teams and Sports News people in the world were basically telling us that we're one of those schools that will never compete, and that 2 bowl wins a decade should be good enough for us as long as we're going to them. That's when I started hating Nutt. How would Alabama fans feel if Mike Dubose had stuck around for 6 more years on the strength of his 10-3 record in '99, and then everyone calling you southern retards living in the 60s when you fired him?

I haven't read any responses, but I'll answer the question in the title of the thread. I've never tasted Nutt, but I'd imagine Arkansas fans don't like the taste that much if they say it's bitter. No one likes bitter things. Maybe that's why.
