SEC Football Talk Little doubt remains of which football conference is truly the best. Will the SEC win an unprecedented fifth straight BCS title? Who will face off in Atlanta this December? Will another one of our own once again capture the prestigious Heisman Trophy? Talk about it all here.

This forum is for SEC Football talk only, not for recruiting, NFL, or non-SEC college football discussion.

Default Living vicariously through the team you support
I don't know about the majority of y'all, but I've noticed a lot of vicarious living around here off of teams by fans. It is pretty darn annoying and pathetic too. I'm not calling out any names but it's so ridiculous how a lot of these people act in this way.

"We're gonna skull drag you up and down the field come such and such date."

"You don't know what it's like at the top until you've been there."

"Oh yeah? We've gotta Heisman winner. You don't."

These are just some generalizations I created to sum up the stuff I'm seeing. Here's the thing: Guess what? It takes very little to no skill whatsoever to be a fan of any team. I doubt any of us have any impact whatsoever on our team's performance on the field other than cheering and financial support.

"You" are not gonna be consistently competitive in the SEC? Fine. Just please say "USC" is not gonna be consistently competitive in the SEC.

"You" sure as heck ain't gonna skull drag us up and down the field. "Florida" is gonna skull drag "USC" up and down the field.

I'm not saying anyone said these specific things. I'm just making some examples. And hey I'm guilty of it too sometimes but not to an outlandish extent like I've seen recently. It's like some people on here sincerely think they are better than someone else that posts just because their team is better.

Sorry for the long and maybe pointless post. It's kinda hard to explain, but do y'all know what I'm talking about?

Im with Rob if Bama beats LSU I mean when Bama Beats LSU that means Im way better than Tiger Golfer in every shape and form and I own him.

The Tide had driven more than 45 yards only once. On this possession, at this critical juncture in the season, Alabama drew from a different well, the well only winners tap. (Alabama vs Auburn 2009 ESPN reporter).

I think it say a lot about a person if they tie their own ego in with that of a bunch of 20 year olds they will never meet. I try to never say "we" or "us" when speaking about a sports team I support. I think you have to be kind of a loser in your real life if you talk down to people based on your sports affliation. If someone has been running their mouth then by all means smack them down when the situation arises. What I can't stand is when we're talking football and I chime in with my opinion (not a flame) and someone says something to the effect of "you're a South Carolina fan what do you know". Just because I pull for a mediocre program doesn't mean I don't know my football and who is anyone else to tell me what I can and can't say just because they choose to pull for a powerhouse.

I got you Rob. I really shouldn't have quoted your post. That is just my thoughts on this topic.

Football is something fun for those who love it or like it. It is an escape from the ordinary for a while. It gives people something to look forward to, something to feel "part" of, and something to get crazy about. They can scream and yell, get all their pent-up aggressions out... it is really a great emotional outlet. When a game is over they can soar with the feeling of victory or languish in agony at a loss. Either way it is a wallowing in emotion. People love to feel strong emotion and sports is absolutely a provider of it. Don't let it get to you TOO much, though. It loses its fun when we take it too seriously.

Lsu Living Vicariously? Not anymore.
I was raised a Tiger fan in the 1950's and 60's. Then I was at LSU from Fall 1968 through Fall 1972 - Football (8-3, 9-1, 9-3, 9-3 and 9-2-1... A tie, how old fashioned!) and Pete Maravich's last two seasons. After graduating, I would be depressed if the Tigers were losing or lost a game. But in the mid 1980's, I took my daughter (about 5 years old) to a game and the Tigers lost to Miami of Ohio (on a rainy night) but I was focused on keeping my daughter dry and happy. That was when I had my epiphany. Winning and Losing are just results and there's always another game to come.

I don't like if the Tigers don't play well but the results aren't as important as my enjoyment of the game. It's great that the Tigers have two BCS Trophies, six CWS Trophies, etc. and are considered a top program but if they don't make it to the BCSCG for a few years, I'm OK with it as long as the represent well during the games they play.

There's no better place to celebrate a National Championship than New Orleans.

... and we've done it twice in five years !

If my team loses, I don't want anything to do with them until Tuesday. If my team wins, I usually say something like "So Georgia beat your teams ass this past weekend.." They respond using "we" and I stop them right there. I ask them if they were on the O-line or D-line since I didn't see them and they usually respond with a nice F bomb or change their word choice. I'm a prick.

I have to live vicariously thru my team b/c my life is garbage. I mean...when am I ever going to win a heisman or a national championship?

I am sort of a big deal on my church softball team though.

Anyone notice how a lot of us say "We" when our team played well, and "They" when said team played terrible?

"We just kept running the ball and getting first downs at will."

"They couldn't pick up a blitz if their life depended on it."

Yeah, it's like what I said about fans wanting to be "part" of something.
