Auburn Just Watched the Auburn Spring Game...
on CSS and Ben Tate looked really good; Fannin too. If the O-line can get it done and a passing game emerges, do these guys have the juice to be the next Cadillac Williams/Ronnie Brown? Sure looks like they could handle it for their part, its the other two factors I'm unsure of. Regardless, those guys are talented.

They're now Caddy/Brown but they'll be a really good combo.

Are they not at that level, or is there a drop-off in production everywhere else that prevents them from performing at that level? I guess that's my real question, I've been hearing about these guys for a couple of years now and they seem to have the potential.

Tate played bad last year because he wasn't comfortable in the offense. CTF wanted him to go east/west where Malzahn will let him go N/S, which he likes. Fannin hasn't broken out yet but should this year. Eric Smith is good and McCalebb is a burner.

Last year was an anomaly....

They will be improved this year, but will be no Caddy/Ronnie. They were a rare and special combo.

I'm really, really, really biting my tongue right now.

Fannin and Tate are decent. Auburn's always had a solid run game. Fannin can play anywhere on the field basically. Well, that's what he barners say anyway. He hasn't been able to prove it yet. Honestly, I don't think they have enough issues ironed out anywhere else to be competitive. Those two guys are about all they have.

The east west running last year drove me nuts. The problem (other than Tate being a north south runner) was the offensive line had no idea how to block for Tate in the spread. Play after play he would be caught in the backfield due to someone missing their block.

Go back to the 1st quarter of the Vandy game where AU temporarily abandoned the spread and went back to the power running game. Tate was knocking out 10+ yards a carry and Vandy couldn't do a thing about it. After the first two drive AU went back to the spread and Tate went back to getting cut down in the back field.

Please don't bring up the Vandy game. I was wearing my Tate jersey too.

So you don't think we have a good defense? Our defensive line is good, we have a good LB core, a great safety combo. Like most SEC teams, we'll be relying on our defense.

Yeah you guys have a good D. You always have a good D. I meant you don't have anyone else on the offensive side of the ball. If your D can keep games close you can hang in for some.
