This is a pretty cool article I spent a few hours writing. It was a lot of fun and I think most of you will enjoy it. Feel free to call me out on my picks or just openly discuss them:
It seems like every year in college football, and particularly in SEC Football, we come to a point in the year when one team upsets another and just makes us sit back and scratch our heads.
Every year, these upsets, or "trap games" as we like to call them, often shape the course of the college football season. They turn a promising year into a disaster and can completely derail a team.
Today, we'll take a look at the biggest trap games for every team in the Southeastern Conference during the 2009 SEC Football season. We'll pick the SEC West first and then move over to the SEC East.
Good article. I, too, see South Carolina as a potential "trap game" for the Tide considering they will be solid defensively and 'Bama will be coming off an emotional game at Ole Miss.
Very good list, but I don't know if I would say Tennessee is a "trap" game for Georgia. We've never taken them lightly, in the East it is us, them and Florida, so I don't see them catching us off guard.
I like what he said about Arkansas having a solid RB corp. While I may disagree with him that they are as solid as the McFadden/Jones duo, Arkansas's RB's are going to surprise some people this year.
I liked the picks especially the Arkansas/Troy game. Definitely one the Hogs should be looking out for.
I think Auburn's trap game is in week 1. And I'm not just saying this to stir crap up. I really do think LA Tech is going to give the Aubies all they can stand.
Good points, and after looking at it, I wish I hadn't picked Tennessee for Georgia. For some reason I was thinking you guys won in 2007, instead of Tennessee.
Also, I didn't say that they were as good as the McFadden, Jones duo. That's my carefully constructed way of saying they will be better than last year, while also subtly implying just how dangerous they could be by throwing the McFadden, Jones names out there. Read again:

The Razorbacks should have as good a backfield as they've had since the Darren McFadden and Felix Jones duo rolled through Fayatteville.

I agree...I don't know what the line is for the Auburn/LA Tech game, but I see this game as being a lot closer than most people might think. Even if Auburn wins, I don't think it'll be pretty. Something along the lines of 21-17 AU would be my guess.
Last year, a blocked PAT took a huge bite out of Florida's National Championship hopes, when the Ole Miss Rebels rode into Gainesville and stunned the eventual National Champions.
Why do I have such an issue with that? Oh yea it was coaching and sloppy play that lost UF that game. Too bad they were all on their game for the SEC CG.
Most teams just "trap" themselves with expectations or emotion or other coachable aspects of the game. Sometimes you are your own worst enemy.

True, no way the Dogs look past UT, Arky is the biggest trap game on the schedule.

I agree. That's basically what this list is. A list of games that teams are likely to not be 100% mentally prepared in against a team capable of pulling off the upset.
I don't want to claim to be a guru or anything, but I picked the Ole Miss game as our trap game before the season started last year. I also had the Rebels at 8-4 on the year.

I think that we all knew that Nutt could do well with Ole Miss right off of the Bus with what was left for him there. I picked Ole Miss to go 8-4 too. I don't think that there is team that will do what Ole Miss did last season.
I don't predict a trap game for UF this year, but then again I didn't pick a loss for them last year.
