I can't even pretend to care about free textbooks. I mean, really? Sucks for you guys, but free books just aren't a big deal to me.

This should not have even been an athletic department issue. Any given student on that campus could have done the same thing all these athletes did. Besides...the guys on the team did the time for the crime. There was absolutely no need for the NCAA's bullshit. Had USCal, Notre Dame, Florida, Texas, or one of the other big name schools done this it wouldn't have even made the news and the NCAA would have looked the other way. I think it is very obvious now how the NCAA truly runs things...not very fair and balanced is it? By the way Mr. Brand...did y'all guys happen to hear about the major violations at USCal that occured back when Reggie Bush was playing? I guess you were just too busy looking at Bama and other southern schools with your microscope...

Does this mean we never have to get into it with Bama fans on who touched the ball first ever again? Does it mean they forfeit and we win? I am sure glad nothing came out before coach o got his bags packed cause this might have caused him to still be there.

All jokin aside, usc got shot with a water pistol and bama got hosed.

They've said, in both cases, that they don't care that the coaches couldn't have known about what was going on... if a player participated who should have been ineligible, all those wins must be vacated. In USC's case, that would be all games in which Bush competed, which would include virtually all games from '03 and '04, including the bowl games. They stand to lose 1 BCS NC, 2 AP NC's, and 1 Heisman Trophy.
Yeah, that's what's supposed to happen, but with them being who they are and all that they have to lose, I think that exceptions will be made. For as long as he got benefits, they should vacate wins, but I can't begin to tell you how shocked I'd be if any of those championships were vacated.

Officially maybe...but "vacating" wins is a joke. Nobody cares about the NCAA declaring a different winner after a game has already been settled on the field. I know Bama isn't going to change it's record books and everybody knows Bama was the real winner of all these games since our "violation" gave us zero competitive advantage.

No, Bama "vacates" the win, can't count it as a win. The other team still counts it as a loss. That will make all time records vs. schools different in the two school's record books. That's how I understand it.

Alabama committed the crime and the NCAA's punishment was fair and just.

I wouldn't wish an NCAA investigation on anyone, including Southern Cal. Alabama's sin is a lack of checks and balances. It took a clerk in the SUPe store to point out that book sales to athletes jumped $100k in one year. It was extremely easy to detect and could've easily been monitored. I'm just grateful Alabama caught it when they did. If it had gone on for years and an NCAA inquiry had uncovered it, the penalty would've been severe. This should serve notice to the rest of the SEC to monitor book sales every semester.

I don't hold Southern Cal accountable for what Reggie Bush was given, however, I do hold Reggie Bush accountable. It seems to me that USC would have a great civil case against Bush, and it's a precedence that should be set.

Whoa Noah, a high five from Cianne. That's more rare than Gene Chizik beating a D1 opponent, or Lane Kiffin actually going a day without committing a secondary violation.

Cianne - A point of clarification. The focus has been all about the vacating the wins, however, nothing has been mentioned about the losses being vacated. I've even heard one reference that the games in that timeframe never existed.

So my question is shouldn't the teams that lost to Alabama have the loss vacated as well?
