Default Gimmie a break on Ole Miss.
You know, I've been hearing a lot of talk about how good Mississippi is going to be this year. There seems to be a good share of SEC fans that think Ole Miss will win the west, be better than Bama and LSU. The SI post season poll had them at # 7. And some people are even saying their National Championship material.

Folks, gimmie a break. I will be very surprised if Ole Miss amasses 10 wins total this season. Now, I don't want to take anything away from the great season they had last year. And they did make a great move hiring Nutt. But c'mon man, I don't think they are an elite SEC team. I'll give you a good QB. but the running game is suspect. If you can't run the ball in the SEC, you don't win the SEC, it's that simple. Also, last year Ole Miss had the element of surprise, as evident in the FL and TT games. They will not have luxury this year. And I prolly could name a couple of other reasons why I think they are slightly, em, overated.
I don't intend this post to offend any Ole Miss fans, but c'mon man, win the West.... no way.

Ole Miss Rebels
2008 Record: 9-4
Returning Starters: 16 (8 offense, 8 defense) Key returnees: QB Jevan Snead, RB/WR Dexter McCluster, DE Greg Hardy, CB Marshay Green, S Kendrick Lewis, DT Ted Laurent. Spring star: OT Bradley Sowell. The 6-7, 310-pound sophomore from Hernando, Miss., will take over for first-round draft pick Michael Oher at left tackle. Spring recap: Sophomore RB Brandon Bolden's improvement should help keep defenses honest and allow Snead to use all his weapons at receiver. LB Patrick Trahan could wind up leading the SEC in tackles.

We finished second in the SEC in rushing and return all the guys who accounted for rushing yards except for a single WR who had maybe three reverses. Winner.

Not much worth reading in that paragraph of nonsense.

Ole Miss, Bama, and LSU fans all have reasons to be pumped about their chances this coming season. Ark. and MSU should improve over last year. Despite what their fans may think, Auburn is in for another rough season.

Jevan Snead is right up there with Tebow when it comes to being dangerous. Also, Dexter McCluster is as good a running back as you'll find in the SEC. Don't tell me Ole Miss has no weapons. They do and they will give Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Auburn hell in 2009.

i think a lot of people can rely too heavily on bowl performances as an indicator of next year's performance. granted it sometimes can be a sign of things to come, but it is by no means a sure fire indicator. ole miss went 8-4 in a year in which the sec was down as much as its been in a while, and you have to wonder how much ground ole miss will gain towards a sec west title due to that year of experience if lsu arkansas and auburn drastically improve and alabama improves their already top notch defense.

Let's just see what happens. The offense is loaded with weapons and the defense is above average. Anything can happen in football, but this is the most talented team Oxford has seen in quite a while

The West is very strong this year. LSU will likely be back full force, the Razorbacks have some solid talent, especially at QB, and a top-notch coach. Auburn is a big question mark, but they are not going to stay down long; they are first and foremost a football school. Ole Miss, as I've indicated, has a superb QB, an outstanding RB, and solid coaching. The Rebs will be tough for everybody. Miss State acquired a really good coach. Watch for them to upset some folks. Alabama is lacking a QB and a significant OL. They were lucky last year but their luck will run out this year. They won't sniff the top of the West; most likely 3rd, maybe even 4th.

Look W, get off ya twenty hand white horse long enough to understand that we are just enjoying the ride. We didn't ask to be ranked that high. We didn't ask that our qb be rated the top draft pick. I tell you what though, it is fun as heck opening a sports web site right now. I understand it bothers the heck out of you that we have a chance to win the west this year. That's right I said a chance. I did not say anything else and except for teasing Lsu fans you won't find different in our posts. I know it bothers you that we care more about the Lsu game too. Most good bama fans understand that and are looking forward to a good game between the Mighty Crimson Tide and the MOFO get outa my way Rebels. Take a second look at the talent level. Take a second look at the entire coaching staff (including past accomplishments). Take a look at our schedule. We may not go to atlanta but the stars have lined it up for us this year. If you don't want us in Atlanta then come to Oxford and kick our a$$. I'm sure you will give it a dang good try. Btw-real Rebs will be gentlemen after the game and offer you food and drink but we don't share our women.

We will win in Atlanta. And then we're gonna go to Virginia, and then Maryland, then Ohio, then Illinois, and then we're gonna take back Washington. BYAAAAAAAAAHHH!

I'm one of those who thinks Ole Miss will win the West.
Just last year alone, the teams that struggled the worst were Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina, and LSU.

What was the one thing these teams had in common? Poor QB play!

Ole Miss returns the 2nd best quarterback in the SEC, and by far the best one in the West.

LSU has Jefferson, who showed flashes of brilliance, but nothing to completely convince me that they're back.

And Alabama....you're starting quarterback has only attempted 20 passes in his NCAA football career. His high school stats are impressive, but why in God's name would he be the backup to John Parker Wilson?
JPW was efficient sure, but he was definitely mediocre.
The guy's resume isn't even close to Snead's and still behind Jefferson's, in my opinion.

Don't forget, Bama and Ole Miss will most likely be ranked in the top 10, so the preseason won't matter too much for any of the 3 west teams when we're talking national title game.
