Too bad you didn't get Mack Brown?
Shorty, Shorty, he’s our man. George Wallace belongs in the garbage can.

Gene Chizik has been a head coach for two years. So it would be more comparable to Brown's first two years as head coach. We won't take his DIAA season in account.

He then moved to Tulane, somewhat similar to ISU. Brown's first year he went 1-10 at Tulane, followed by a 4-7 season. Finally breaking even at 6-6 in his third year. He went 5-17 in his first two years (sounds familiar).

Mack then moved on to North Carolina, again somewhat similar to Auburn (don't freak Auburn, SIMILAR, not the same). UNC has 9 conference titles, Auburn has 10 (6 SEC). Well he went 2-20 his first two years at UNC, then 13-8-1 the two years after that. So I mean if you can suffer through two horrible and then two mediocre seasons your set to move on to 8,9, and 10 win seasons.

Look at the bright side, if you can take almost a decade of mediocrity you'll have nothing to claim, but at least 10 win season (with a few 9 in there, but who cares).

While I write this in similar comparison, I believe it has no bearing on how Gene Chizik will do. The comparison between the two is like apples and oranges (like they say). Different situations. Different decades. Different football really. Gene Chizik is Gene Chizik, you got what you got.

So you're saying Mack Brown won 80 games as a head coach before going to Texas.

How many games has Gene Chizik won as a head coach? Five.

So wait? Is Auburn comparable to Tulane, UNC or Texas?

Here is my question. Your a recruit. You have a choice to play for one of these 5 coaches. How do they rank?

A)

B)

C)

D)

E)

Something tells me if this was the Heisman of coaches votes, Chizik is not invited.

One thing's for sure.... you aren't going to be selling coach prestige or program stability to your recruits.

I hate Forde but he's right:

Auburn. The hire: Chizik. The grade: F.
Chizik needs to begin every morning by reciting the Lou Gehrig speech: "Today-today-today, I consider myself-myself-myself, the luckiest man on the face of the Earth-Earth-Earth." The fact that he somehow parlayed a 5-19 record at Iowa State into a job at one of the better programs in the country is astounding -- and reflects the glorious dysfunction that is Auburn athletics. Understand this: Auburn could have kept Tommy Tuberville and his 85-40 record (Resignation? Right.) but went with a guy who opened his tenure in Ames with losses to Kent State and Northern Iowa. Auburn could have gone after Leach, who knows something about winning in a brutal division, but instead hired a guy who went 2-10 in league play in the softer Big 12 North. Auburn could have landed the red-hot Gill, whose Buffalo team has won six of its past seven games, but instead embraced a guy on a 10-game losing streak. Maybe Chizik will be the next Bill Parcells -- he went 3-8 in his first year as a head coach, at the Air Force Academy in 1978 -- before turning out all right. But until that happens, this has the makings of the worst hire in SEC history.
So it's been quite a run of you-cannot-be-serious stuff during the hire-and-fire season in college football. But here's the ultimate punch line: Charlie Weis kept his job at Notre Dame.

You cant compare 1 coach to another. They are all different and they will all have different results. The bottom line is GC dont look good to a lot of people and all the Bama fans say he will never do anything and will not be able to win much at Auburn, mostly because thats what they hope happens.

The truth is, nobody knows how he will do however, if the Auburn fans and the IDIOTS that run things at Auburn dont get behind him and support him then he most likely will fail.

Are we going to sell coach prestige this year? No. Will we get a great DB this class probably. If he wins 9 or more games will Auburn sell prestige yes.

I've had as much fun as anyone with the Auburn hire, and for good reason...it doesn't look like a good one.

However, Chizik was a talented DC and it is very tough to just take his 2 years at a bad school that needed to be rebuilt and say he can't win as a head coach. He may have just been over anxious and taken the wrong job (and I'd say that's a pretty good bet in large part). You can look at numerous coaches starting and having to rebuild a bad program struggled, because it takes time. Mullen, may be every bit as capable as Whittingham or Meyer as taking over a program and winning, but he's not going to go to MSU and win 10 games next year. Whether or not Chizik can be a successful head coach has not been set in stone yet. However, the odds are stacked against him. There's controversy regarding the hire on multiple platforms (whether the previous staff should've been fired or if someone else should've been hired and if there was racial influence) and the fact that he is unproven and has so many people in the media and around Auburn skeptical of the hire isn't going to give him any rope if he loses and probably won't help with recruiting. Plus there are the facts that he's up against a lot in state with Nick Saban, his other big rival Mark Richt is one of the better coaches in the nation and Georgia is important recruiting grounds for Auburn. And right now he's at the bottom 3 as far as coaching in this league.

He is the Auburn coach now and he deserves a chance to prove people wrong. But the fact is in big time college football people always look to make splash hires and he was on nobody's list and coming off a terrible season. But the reason Auburn had to make a splash maybe more so than most is because they just fired one of the top 15-20 coaches in the nation IMO. And its going to be very tough for Auburn fans and observers to take this hire seriously when they hire an unproven coach to replace Tubbs.

And after this rational post, I'll go back to making fun
