Lsu Everyone knows the SEC has the best coaches, but
who would you say is the worst coach in the SEC?

We can argue who the best is too. I think you could any one of 4 guys and couldn't be wrong.

Well Bobby Johnson cant be counted as the worst coach because he has done a pretty decent job with what he has (come on its Vanderbilt!) I would hate to count Croom because he doesn't really have much to work with either. I would have to say Nutt.

It might be Nutt even though he tends to get a good bit out of the players he has. If you're only going by current school success you could also argue Spurrier. Seems like he doesn't give a crap anymore.

Well, it's not like he's even surpassed Holtz at South Carolina yet. Maybe he gets you get out of the 5+ loss club this year?

We're really digging for someone here, and he really hasn't done anything at South Carolina.

I also don't quite understand why you have to get so butthurt every time someone points out South Carolina is simply a mid-level SEC team. It's the truth, accept and move on.

Pot meet kettle, for you seem to get bent out of shape anytime anyone says anything remotely negative about LSU or Miles.

If you're suggesting Spurrier could be the worst coach in the SEC, quite possibly you're digging in the wrong spot.

And it has nothing to do with his being the coach at South Carolina. No sane person could put Spurrier at the bottom of the list as far as SEC coaches go, for you cannot discount what he accomplished at Florida. Only time will tell whether he elevates SC to a higher level in the next few years.

I call people out for lying, which is what people like BP do on here a lot. It's not lying to say USC is a mid-level team and Spurrier hasn't done anything there yet. If getting "bent out of shape" means correcting someone, then so be it.

I said if we're basing this on just current team success. You don't tihnk Spurrier could be in the discussion with what he's done at USC (7-5, 8-5, 6-6)?

As I said, you can't discount what he did at Florida to put him at the bottom of the list IMO. That's absurd. Also, the last time a SC coach coached three seasons or more of 0.500 or better season records was Jim Carlen back in the '70s, so no, Spurrier hasn't done too bad at SC IMO.

I mean, you could do the same with Saban and say since Alabama was 6-6 in his only season with Bama (7-6 with their Bowl victory last year), he could be considered at the bottom. And Bama's history is much more impressive than SC's. Again, absurd IMO.

History isn't good but the coach right before Spurrier, Lou Holtz, had this team at 9-3 and 8-4 in his best years. Spurrier has yet to match that. And he has the talent to be finishing Top 25 most every year, and has also yet to do so.

Well, Saban has only been there for 1 season but you're right, he could be in the discussion if we're only going by current school success.

I think what it's boiling down here to is picking the worst among the best, and that's simply not easy to do.

No, you're wrong if you are saying I was right for suggesting that Saban could be in the discussion as well, for that was not what I was saying.....Wow, what a tongue twister that was.

I was not suggesting that Saban should be in the discussion, but using him as an example. Considering Saban as the worst SEC coach would be as absurd as considering Spurrier as the worst SEC coach. Neither should be considered.

By the way, if you want to go by current school success and discount what a coach has done at their other schools (as you seem to want to do), you would have to choose between Petrino and Nutt, since neither has had ANY success at their current school.....One would have to look no further.

First off, 2007 is the only year in which Spurrier's team has underachieved at USC. He overachieved in 2007. We went 5-3 in conference when most were saying we MIGHT win 1 conference game and not go to a bowl. He still did a great job in 2006. It led to the #4 recruiting class in the country. This past year he definately underachieved, but not because of him. He's pretty focused on the offense. The defense costed us most of our games last year (except Vanderbilt).

Now if he goes 6-6 this year, I will agree with you and say that he's lost it.

You also have to remember that the SEC is very different now than in 2000 and 2001 when Holtz was here. It's much harder IMO. Florida and UGA are a lot stronger as are teams like Kentucky and Vandy. You can't compare the two regimes.
