Sectalk Blackmon Leaves AU?
This cant be good!

Auburn's Blackmon leaves school
BY CHRISTA TURNER
Staff Writer
AUBURN, Ala. - Former LaGrange High standout Tray Blackmon did not enroll at Auburn for spring classes and will take care of what head coach Tommy Tuberville termed "personal problems" over the next few months.

Blackmon sat out Auburn's first six games while serving a suspension for an underage drinking arrest last May. He was again suspended for Auburn's bowl win over Nebraska for another undisclosed rules violation.

"He's taking care of personal problems," Tuberville said on Wednesday. "Hopefully, he'll rejoin the team the first of June. He's just got to take care of problems."

Tuberville said Blackmon would be eligible to play in 2007 if he makes up ground during summer courses. He also said Blackmon had an open invitation to return.

"It's not up to me. It's up to him," Tuberville said.

Blackmon, who would be a sophomore in 2007, finished the year with 15 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss and half a sack. He also had a quarterback hurry and three fumble recoveries, including a crucial one that changed the direction of the game against Florida.

He's going to rehab. My gut says he'll be clean and sober and back in June. Rehab is what Trey needs in order to keep from being a dropout.

alcohol? That is sad when guys like take the chance of throwing away what could be a bright future. Maybe he will wake up. What is almost as bad are these recruits that have big time potential but they seem to have been forgetting that you have your academics in order first. I remember David Paine, the All-World DE that signed with Bama a few years ago but didn't qualify and never did qualify even for JUCO.

Alcohol and Drugs. Trey needs this as a reality check to keep from working the night shift at the Circle K in Lagrange when he's 30.

The most important thing for him after he completes rehab is to stay away from his old friends.

Best of luck to him. This can either be the best thing that ever happened to him or a missed opportunity. Let's just hope he can be a "look what happens if you do the right thing" story. Cory Boyd was a great example of that for us this year.

Well, I hope he gets it on the first try. It's extremely difficult for guys his age to quit using. I'd even say close to impossible in a college environment. Too many parties and bad influences. Only 1 person out of 11 ( of any age ) stay sober for at least a year after rehab. The numbers are quite dismal, because one has to change their entire life. New lifestyle, friends, and habits. Retention of any old habits and practices virtually assures a relapse. It's even suggested you avoid relationships for at least a year. It's necessary to use that year to work solely on yourself. 80% of all guys that relapse, do so either because of, or with a woman. That'll be a tall order for a star athlete at college. I hope he's smart and does everything the experts suggest. The odds aren't good for anyone.

if i was him, after getting out of rehab i'd just spend the whole day in the weight room. then you come home too tired to do anything but sleep.

I don't want him in the weightroom. Have him run cross country. We don't need him too strong.

My wife is a rehab psychologist. He's got a long road. He will need a good support system.

Rivals be damned when it comes to the mental health of a kid. We'll be praying for him.

Having some experience on the issue...in all do honesty it'd be in Tray's best interest not to play ball at all. Blackmon is one of my favorite non-Vol players, kid is fast and nasty (and we all know that), but football is just football. Its only a game. A friend of mine, teammate actually, fell into a similar situation two years ago. Upon his discharge from rehab he not only elected to cease his football career, but transfer high schools as well. As dissappointing as that may have been from a teammate stand-point, I understood that it was in his best interest to avoid the familar places and people.

Good luck and god bless Tray Blackmon.

JerseyVol,

Sometimes that focus on a sport can help as well. It's different for everyone. Your right though, Chris Marcus the huge 7 ft plus center at Western Kentucky Univ. tried to overcome the demons in college and followed him to the denver nuggets. Now he is out of the league and clean and sober.

The hardest part of quitting is wanting to quit. If he can do that then half the battle is won.

I was on the Tiger Transit (student bus system) yesterday and Pat Sims was on it with some other football players (not sure who they were). Some other kid on the bus brought up Trey, and they all said he would be back in the fall.

From what everyone inside the program has said, his infraction wasn't very serious, but Tubs doesn't tolerate any kind of misbehavior.. basically Blackmon is taking the semester off, and getting his life together. He should, and I think he will, be back in the fall in time for the games.

Sucks for him, hopefully he comes out smelling like a rose, instead of....what's the word you use Blake? Corndog?
