Something will have to give Saturday when No. 5 LSU (6-1) and No. 18 Auburn (5-2) meet at 8 p.m. in Tiger Stadium in an ESPN game. The Tigers have the longest home winning steak in the nation at 17, while Auburn has won eight straight road games. LSU has not lost at home since No. 10 Tennessee upset the No. 4 Tigers 30-27 in overtime on Sept. 26, 2005. Auburn's last road loss was at LSU, 20-17 in overtime on Oct. 22, 2005, which was a night in which it missed six field goals. "You have to defend your house," LSU defensive end Kirston Pittman said. "We feed on the energy of our fans here at home. When other teams come into Tiger Stadium, they are going to be in for a fight."
Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said he likes to keep things simple offensively on the road, thus cutting down on mistakes. "We don't spend a lot of time talking about where we're playing and the crowd, and we don't work on crowd noise, any of those things," he said. "We just try to get better during the week and challenge them to keep their poise and try to play consistent on the road."
First place in the Southeastern Conference West could also be decided Saturday as LSU and Auburn are each 3-1 in the league. Alabama is tied for first with LSU and Auburn at 3-1 and hosts Tennessee Saturday.
DORSEY, HIGHSMITH, STELTZ HONORED: Sports Illustrated and CBSsports.com have named LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, outside linebacker Ali Highsmith and strong safety Craig Steltz to its mid-season All-American team. The only other team in the nation with three players named to this team is Boston College, which is ranked No. 3 to LSU's No. 4 in the BCS rankings. Dorsey has 34 tackles with four sacks for the Tigers. Highsmith has 45 tackles on the season with five for losses. Steltz leads the SEC with four interceptions and has four tackles for losses, two forced fumbles and a sack. He leads LSU with 49 tackles.
BEWARE OF COUNTERFEIT TICKETS: The LSU athletic department is reminding fans to beware of fake tickets being sold for Saturday's LSU-Auburn game on the Internet and around Tiger Stadium. Hundreds of fans bought counterfeit tickets before the LSU-Florida game in Tiger Stadium on Oct. 6 and were denied entry to the game. "Fans who purchase game tickets on the secondary market are taking a big chance," LSU ticket manager Brian Broussard said. The only authorized outlets for LSU tickets are the ticket office and the LSU Ticket Marketplace at LSUsports.net. Alabama's athletic department has released a similar reminder to its fans.
