Honestly I could care less whether or not people consider us "the greatest team of all time". How many people that voted actually watched all of those teams play? Not only that, but we're sitting on two National Championships. Who cares if we aren't THE best, we sure as hell were good enough. Last time I checked being "the best" wouldn't have won us any more hardware...

Ditto that shanksta. I could care less if the 06 team is or isnt considered the best team of all time. Its all tit for tat anyways. I can think of as many reasons why they are the best as I can of why they arent. Its all a matter of opinion and nothing more. The facts are...were own the two most recent national titles and Im still happy as he** about it!

Let me guess...your unbiased and professional opinion is that one of the UK teams was the greatest Bball team ever. How did I ever guess that.

No...not the nation...just a bunch of "opinionated" folks like yourself. Doesn't matter, as the other Gators pointed out...we're #1 right now...for the past 2 years we're the top dogs.....but, no team has ever returned all 5 starters and repeated...so, I guess we are the best ever! That fact speaks for itself.

Are you kidding me? UK's 96 squad, UNC's 82 squad, and UNLV's 90 squad all would've mopped the floor w/the 07 Gators. I believe the Dook squad of 91 would've beaten 'em soundly as well.

What I'm saying is your bench is weak. Fact.

The great thing about this is that its all speculation. You cant prove any other team is better than the 07 squad no more than I can prove we are the best.

Speculation-noun

1. the contemplation or consideration of some subject: to engage in speculation on humanity's ultimate destiny.
2. a single instance or process of consideration.
3. a conclusion or opinion reached by such contemplation: These speculations are impossible to verify.
4. conjectural consideration of a matter; conjecture or surmise: a report based on speculation rather than facts.
5. engagement in business transactions involving considerable risk but offering the chance of large gains, esp. trading in commodities, stocks, etc., in the hope of profit from changes in the market price.
6. a speculative commercial venture or undertaking.

I think #3 is the best definition for this situation.

Weak bench? With 6th Man of the Year in Chis Richard? Fact?

It's far from fact...like Gator said, it's your "opinion"...it's my opinion that you're wrong...so...if it's fact...prove it!

Anyway, none of those teams had 5 starters that returned and repeated as National Champions...it's never been done...Florida should be labeled the "Best" based simply on that.

But to assume that is to assume that UF had the best starting 5 in college basketball history...Im sure there are plenty of other teams that would disagree, and I would as well. With all the great teams from the past(when great players actually went to college and played a decent amount of college ball) Im sure that there are plenty of teams from years past that should be considered better than the '07 UF Gators. Like a previous poster said though, the Gators dont have to be the best ever to win the title, just the best at the time. They have certainly proven to be the best over the past two years...but there is no way in hell I would call them the best roundball team to ever grace a college court.

That's the beauty of this argument, cocky...it's all opinion and speculation, most of which is obviously biased. You can say all day long that the '07 Gators weren't the best...but how do you prove it? How do you prove that they are? How do you disprove either argument? Here's my point.....the '07 Gators did something no other team in the history of college basketball has done...returned all 5 starters and repeated as National Champs.....went through a field of 65 teams and came out champs in consecutive years. In a thread based on opinion and speculation, this is the only FACT.

Now, maybe that doesn't make them the best ever....who can say? But it sure as heck puts them above many teams being "portrayed" as the best in this thread.

Actually, that fact doesn't make Florida the best ever, any more than the fact that some of those teams on the list (e.g., 1973 UCLA) went undefeated in their march to the Title makes them better than the Gators (something Florida didn't do). All that fact proves is that Florida had the best team in the country over that two-year period.

I believe Gator2753's post is right on as we can speculate all day long and never come to an agreement on which team was the best. There are facts which could be stated that would support choosing any team over the other IMO, but none of them validate or prove which team was the best. That's the difficulty in comparing teams of different eras.

One way to get to the bottom of this is is to assemble the players from each team and have a tournament. Based on the age of some of the players on those teams, I believe I'd have to go with the Gators.

Thanks for saving me the time. The fact is that Florida's starters were the ONLY ones to ever win back-to-back NC's. Period. I don't expect the part-time sports fans who vote in these polls, in passing, to be aware of that. But, not Duke, nor UK, nor all of those UCLA teams who won so many NC's, won back-to-back titles with the same group of 5 starters. Of course UK will win the poll. They have more unemployed fans with nothing else to do but vote for UK on the internet, or spend their day talking about UK basketball.
