Default South Carolina vs Florida Game #3
For those who are interested, this game is televised on ESPN at 1:00 PM (Eastern), 12:00 (Central). I will miss most of it due to church and eating out with the family afterwards (since I'm on Central time), but hope to possibly catch the last few innings. As the rubber game in the series, hopefully it'll be a good one.

Just got home and turned on the TV. Looks like a pretty good game, with Florida leading 2-1 in the 4th.

One benefit to rarely having college baseball on ESPN...they can talk about all the highpoints and lowpoints of college baseball as an organization without it getting too repetitive. I didn't get home til the top of the 4th but it's been pretty interesting so far.

I appreciate them even mentioning the possibility of Smoak coming back for his senior year, but he's gone after next year. He's a lock for top 20 pick if he stays healthy. I suppose his dollar demands could be too high though like in high school.

Score in the top of the 5th is 3-1 UF.

Wow, Cocks totally lucked out there. Bases loaded with 1 out for the Gators and LaPorta walks to the plate. He hits a little nubber back to Jeffords and we get the double play. Florida still got 2 runs in the inning due to walks and poor defense up the middle. Considering what could have happened just there, I'll take being down just 5-2 though.

Bad luck for the Gamecocks this time around. down 5-2 in the top of the 9th, we should have had the bases loaded. Travis Jones hits another homer to CF. Should be winning but what the heck, it's tied so can't complain too much. 5-5 with 1 out in the top of the 9th.

By the way...great to see Andrew Crisp and Matt LaPorta still in the game. They had a brutal collision at 1b in the top of the 9th after the throw brought LaPorta down the line. He didn't tag Crisp like the ump thought so he should have been safe (that's the bad luck I referenced with my last post), but this is just one game...the fact both appear to be healthy is far more important.

Yes, the replay showed the wrong call was made. But can't fault the call too much since in real-time I'm sure it was hard to tell that during the collision LaPorta didn't tag Crisp or touch the base (and Crisp touched the first base bag). Appears both players are OK, which is lucky based on how it looked. Anyway, good comeback and regardless of how it turns out, this has been a good game to watch.

Completely agree. That's why I purposely called it 'bad luck' instead of a 'bad call.' The ump behind the plate has been pretty bad today though...albeit consistently bad for both teams. None of his calls have been particularly egregious but he's been very inconsistent with his strike zone. The exact same pitch has been called a ball once and then a strike the next time multiple times in this game. It hasn't really affected the game much since he's been equally bad for both squads but that has to be so frustrating for the pitchers.

Also of note, 2 consecutive half innings now we've had a player get hit by a pitch where they didn't move an inch. Pretty amusing...

Yes, and I agree as well......the home plate ump has been pretty inconsistent in calling strikes and balls (for both teams).

Haha, GF you just see Crisp get knocked on the head in celebration after scoring the go-ahead run? Then he has to dodge the rest of the team as they've clearly forgotten he was just recently demolished by LaPorta. Then a nice cut shot to Jones laughing about it at 1b.

I guess it's no secret who the MVP for this series is for the Gamecocks.

Yes, I saw it. I'm sure Crisp's head is still banging after that collision. And Jones is having a day of all days......
