Default Caster Semenya: Amazingly, She’s a Man and a Woman
Caster Semenya, the 18-year-old sprinter who made international headlines recently when she dominated at the World Championships, was forced to take a test to determine if she was a man or a woman. According to the Daily Mail, those results are in, and Caster Semenya is both a man and a woman.

“… has no womb or ovaries and her testosterone levels are more than three times higher than those of a normal female … According to a source with knowledge of the IAAF tests, Semenya has internal testes - the male sexual organs that produce testosterone. Testosterone is a hormone responsible for building muscles and for producing body hair and a deep voice.”

And we thought the revelation of Rick Pitino’s fling in a restaurant was the sports story of the summer. To be fair, Semenya’s results printed in the Daily Mail have yet to be confirmed, and the paper is known as a Fleet Street tabloid that embraces rumor and innuendo.

That's pretty much getting reported everywhere now; but even reputable news outlets are using the original Australian reports as confirmation. Looks to be true, though, because the IAAF won't deny that's what the findings were. The IAAF is also saying that even if that's true, they'll have a hard time stripping her/him of the medal, because she/he hasn't actually cheated. Personally, I'm not sure why that matters; the fact of the matter is she/he has an unfair advantage over other female runners because of testosterone production... whether or not she/he knew it is irrelevant, imo.

Dealing with future cases with hermaphrodites could be tricky. But how is this different than other God-given talents (height, speed, muscular build, etc.) for normal male athletes?
