Olemiss Terrorists attack Ole Miss this Saturday
KKK set to further embarrass themselves in Oxford

Posted by John Taylor on November 19, 2009 6:56 PM ET

How does the old axiom go, nothing says college football Saturdays like cool weather, changing leaves and a bunch of racist xenophobes wearing white hoods protesting on campus? Or something like that, I think.

Anyway, the Mississippi White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan plan to stage a protest on the Ole Miss campus to show their disapproval of Houston Nutt's offensive philosophy the university's decision to remove "From Dixie with Love" from the Ole Miss band's song selection.

Students were warned that their continuing the traditional chant of "the South will rise again" during the song would result in the song being barred from the game-day experience. The students continued the chant, and the song was removed from the band's rotation.

And that decision has the great titan of the Mississippi chapter of the KKK more upset than when he witnesses an interracial marriage ceremony a Jevan Snead pick late in the fourth quarter of a close game.

"We are coming to Ole Miss to say enough is enough on attacking our Christian, southern heritage and culture, and it's time for every person to have a right to freedom of speech," Shane "Billy Joe Jim Bob" Tate said according to the LSU student newspaper.

"We aren't coming there to cause problems or cause trouble. Trouble has already been caused by a handful at Ole Miss, including the black student body president, who wants to shape Ole Miss into yet another liberal sodomite college."

On the plus side, it'll be the closest any of the protesters or their families get to college, so they have that going for them. Which is good.

What peeves me is that I am automatically lumped into a group with these idiots b/c I am proud of being a southerner. Sucks ya'll lost one of your traditions. Sucks even more that they will interrupt your tailgating.
Who's that coming down the track?

The song is a tradition. The chant is not. Only been recited for about 5 seasons. These days that's not even as long as it takes the average freshman to graduate.

Hardly anyone. In reality if they show I would be stunned if more than 3-6 guys show up. It's all talk no walk with these types.

Its easy to do under the hood. I would like to see how many show up if they say its ok to protest....as long as they dont wear the hoods.

That changes it a bit. I wonder what the catalyst of the chant was.
Who's that coming down the track?

That seems to be the typical reaction to hearing that bit of info. My guess would be young, dumb kids that grew up in a completely different era. An era that really just doesn't see race the same way as generations prior and affords no deference to members of those previous generations who find the chant offensive. And now you have the fire that is a bunch of 18-22 year olds saying "you can't tell us what to do Mr. Man!!". What I don't get though is if race means nothing to these youngsters (and kudos to them if that is the case) what possible meaning could this chant hold for them? Without historic context it's really just gibberish not worth fighting for.
