that we are getting rid of the Turf in favor of real grass at the Vaught? Saw on another board that Houston wanted that and it was going to happen, but I was wondering if anybody over hear heard that also?
"The University is respected, but Ole Miss is loved. The University gives a diploma
and regretfully terminates tenure, but one never graduates from Ole Miss."
FieldTurf > Grass. I feel like the cleat spike sticks better in FieldTurf than in grass. But then again, after I researched it, I just realized Ole Miss plays on AstroTurf.. Poor souls.

Your research is poor then. AstroTurf, the field surface, is what you see in places like the old Astrodome as well as on many lacrosse fields, etc and is what was used between 1970 and 1984. Ole Miss uses AstroPlay which is produced by the company AstroTurf. It's the same surface used by the Buffalo Bills.

I could've misread since I do that a lot then. I had two tabs open with the word Astro in it. Oops.

I've also heard lots of criticism of the surface because of that... some folks think that causes more unnecessary injuries.

I believe it is a fact that artificial turf is responsible for more injuries, particularly certain ones like knee or ankle injuries. Once they step onto it, it holds so well that they twist their ankles and knees. It is probably much better for the players if they play on natural grass. And when you fall on grass it is much better than fallling on a "rug", which is how it is sometimes termed.
I thought the whole reason Ole Miss went to artificial turf is because grass wouldn't grow at Vaught... Is that not true?
One part true, one part false. Prior to putting in the AstroPlay there was a grass fungus that was eating away the grass that showed up during the SEZ construction. So that part is true. The other reason is that Cutcliffe wanted to move towards a faster playing surface to take advantage of his bubble screens, etc.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't making a joke, I honestly just heard that and thought it was true.
I know a lot of coaches like artificial turf to give a bigger homefield advantage. Why wouldn't Nutt want that?
Again, not making a joke or trying to be an A-hole (because the same is true for Davis-Wade)... but it would seem in a ~50,000 seat stadium you would need as much of an advantage as you could get. Ole Miss and MSU don't have the advantage of having 100,000 fans yelling and screaming at opposing teams during home games, turf is that advantage.

Because Nutt prefers a ground offense. The advantage of the AstroPlay/FieldTurf is that your skill players can get going to top speed quicker since it's more like a track surface. Natural grass can play slow and generally plays better for the three yards and a cloud of dust.
